In the present study, we sought to develop materials applicable to personal and collective protection equipment to mitigate SARS-CoV-2. For this purpose, AgNPs were synthesized and stabilized into electrospinning nanofiber matrices (NMs) consisting of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), chitosan (CHT), and poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL). Uniaxial nanofibers of PVA and PVA/CHT were developed, as well as coaxial nanofibers of PCL[PVA/CHT], in which the PCL works as a shell and the blend as a core. A crucial aspect of the present study is the in situ synthesis of AgNPs using PVA as a reducing and stabilizing agent. This process presents few steps, no additional toxic reducing agents, and avoids the postloading of drugs or the posttreatment of NM use. In general, the in situ synthesized AgNPs had an average size of 11.6 nm, and the incorporated nanofibers had a diameter in the range of 300 nm, with high uniformity and low polydispersity. The NM's spectroscopic, thermal, and mechanical properties were appropriate for the intended application. Uniaxial (PVA/AgNPs and PVA/CHT/AgNPs) and coaxial (PCL[PVA/CHT/AgNPs]) NMs presented virucidal activity (log's reduction ≥ 5) against mouse hepatitis virus (MHV-3) genus Betacoronavirus strains. In addition to that, the NMs did not present cytotoxicity against fibroblast cells (L929 ATCC CCL-1TM lineage).

Due to their strong aromaticity and difficulties in chemo-, regio-, and enantioselectivity control, asymmetric hydrogenation of naphthol derivatives to 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthols has remained a long-standing challenge. Herein, we report the first example of homogeneous asymmetric hydrogenation of naphthol derivatives catalyzed by tethered rhodium-diamine catalysts, affording a wide array of optically pure 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthols in high yields with excellent regio-, chemo-, and enantioselectivities (up to 98% yield and >99% ee). Mechanistic studies with experimental and computational approaches reveal that fluorinated solvent 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) plays vital roles in the control of reactivity and selectivity, and 1-naphthol is reduced via a cascade reaction pathway, including dearomative tautomerization, 1,4-hydride addition, and 1,2-hydride addition in sequence.

In this study, novel polyaniline-coated perovskite nanocomposites (PANI@CoTiO and PANI@NiTiO) were synthesized using an in situ oxidative polymerization method and evaluated for the photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) a persistent organic pollutant. The nanocomposites displayed significantly enhanced photocatalytic efficiency compared to pure perovskites. We report the synthesis of N-capped peptides under mild conditions using the oxidative aminocarbonylation of aryl iodides and peptide esters as nucleophiles in the solution phase. Ex situ chloroform in chamber A generates CO, which diffuses to chamber B, which contains other reactants. This method offers N-capped peptides at 80 °C for 12 h.
