The use of copper as an antimicrobial agent has a long history and has gained renewed interest in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, the authors investigated the antimicrobial properties of an alloy composed of copper with a small percentage of silver (Cu-0.03% wt.Ag). The alloy was tested against various pathogens, including , , , , and the H1N1 virus, using contact exposure tests. Results showed that the alloy was capable of inactivating these pathogens in two hours or less, indicating its strong antimicrobial activity. Electrochemical measurements were also performed, revealing that the small addition of silver to copper promoted a higher resistance to corrosion and shifted the formation of copper ions to higher potentials. This shift led to a slow but continuous release of Cu ions, which have high biocidal activity. These findings show that the addition of small amounts of silver to copper can enhance its biocidal properties and improve its effectiveness as an antimicrobial material.

Background: Scedosporium apiospermum is a multidrug-resistant filamentous fungus that causes localized and disseminated diseases. Our group has previously described that metalbased complexes containing copper(II) or silver(I) ions complexed with 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6- dione (phendione) inhibited the viability of S. apiospermum conidial cells.

Cancer and microbial infections place a significant burden on the world's health systems and can increase the rate of disease and mortality. In the current study, a novel nanocomposite based on Gum Arabic, silver and copper oxide nanoparticles (GA@Ag-CuO nanocomposite) was synthesized to overcome the problem of microbial infection and in cancer treatment. Characterization using UV-Vis.

Electrical resistivity in good metals, particularly noble metals such as gold (Au), silver (Ag), or copper, increases linearly with temperature (T) for T > Θ, where Θ is the Debye temperature. This is because the coupling (λ) between the electrons and the lattice vibrations, or phonons, in these metals is weak, with λ ~ 0.1-0.

Phosphinoazide complexes of the composition TpM-L (M = Cu, Ag, and L = 2-azido-1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-2,3-dihydro-1-1,3,2-diazaphosphole) have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Their thermal decomposition led to cyclodiphosphazenes as a result of the metal-mediated coupling of two nitrene units in a process that takes place in both a stoichiometric and catalytic manner. Experimental data have allowed proposing a mechanistic pathway for this new transformation.

Traditional photopolymerizations generally requires an initiator for initiating the polymerization while few cases have created degradable chemical bonds. Moreover, the migration instability and cytotoxicity of photo initiators are posing issues to human health and the environment. In this work, we discovered an initiator-free photo polycondensation system (IFPPC) between polymercaptans and aldehyde monomers, producing high strength plastic materials with exchangeable and degradable dithioacetal groups.
