The synthesis and antiplasmodial evaluation of new hybrids combining the pharmacophore structures of artemisinin, ciprofloxacin or norfloxacin, and 7-chloroquinoline are reported in this study. The first step for all of the syntheses is the obtainment of key piperazine esters intermediates bearing the drugs ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin. Using these platforms, 18 final compounds were synthesized through a multistep procedure with overall yields ranging between 8 and 20%. All compounds were screened for their antiplasmodial activity against the chloroquine-resistant FcB1 strain. Compounds , , , and , bearing an artesunate fragment with ciprofloxacin, exhibited IC values in the range of 3.5-5.4 nM and excellent selectivity indices. Among the compounds bearing the artesunate moiety on the norfloxacin, two of them, and , afforded IC values of 1.5 nM and 1.9 nM, respectively. They also showed excellent selectivity indices. The most potent compounds were also evaluated against the CQ-resistant Dd2 strain of , demonstrating that those compounds incorporating the artesunate fragment were the most potent. Finally, the combination of artesunate with either ciprofloxacin or norfloxacin moieties in a single molecular entity proved to substantially enhance the activity and selectivity when compared to the administration of the unconjugated counterparts artesunate/ciprofloxacin and artesunate/norfloxacin.

The present study aimed to search for the presence of the plasmid-mediated antimicrobial resistance genes in 106 Escherichia coli (E. coli) isolates from a total of 240 fresh fecal samples collected from 12 private cattle farms in Bingol province of East Turkey from November 2021 to January 2022. In those colistin-resistant E.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global concern and poses a significant threat to public health. The emergence of multidrug-resistant organisms, including , also presents a risk of transmission to humans through the food chain, including milk. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of in raw milk in the Chattogram metropolitan area (CMA) of Bangladesh and their phenotypic and genotypic antimicrobial resistance patterns.

Background: Salmonella enterica is a major cause of foodborne illness and mortality worldwide, but its presence in milk along the milk supply chain and associated public health risks are under-studied. This research was aimed to investigate the occurrence and antimicrobial susceptibility of Salmonella enterica in milk, milking environments, milkers' hands, and diarrheic patients in Wolaita Sodo, Ethiopia.
Methods: We collected 644 samples from 106 dairy farms that include direct milk from cow, bulk tank milk, milkers' hand swabs, teat surfaces swabs, farm floors swabs, milk storage containers swabs, collectors' bulk milk, retailers' bulk milk, and stool from diarrheic patients.

Antibiotics in surface water have attracted increasing attention because of their potential threats to aquatic ecosystems and public health. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a priority antibiotic list and establish a regulatory framework for antibiotic control. Taking the Fenhe River Basin in North China as the study area, a method to rank priority antibiotics based on their environmental exposure, ecological effects, and human health risks was established.

The ecological risks posed by incompletely degraded antibiotic intermediates in aquatic environments warrant significant attention. This study investigated the degradation mechanisms of sulfonamides (sulfadiazine, sulfamethoxazole) and quinolones (ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin) during thermally activated persulfate (TAP) treatment. The main degradation mechanisms for sulfonamides involved S-N bond cleavage and -NH oxidation mediated by sulfate and hydroxyl radicals, whereas quinolone degradation occurred primarily through piperazine ring cleavage facilitated by a single linear oxygen.
