Background And Objective: Sarcopenia, characterized by the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass (MM) and muscle function, is a common and debilitating condition in cancer patients, significantly impacting their quality of life, treatment outcomes, and overall survival. The pathophysiology of sarcopenia is multifactorial, involving metabolic, hormonal, and inflammatory changes. Recent research highlights the role of chronic inflammation in the development and progression of sarcopenia, with pro-inflammatory cytokines being key mediators of muscle catabolism.

Diabetes mellitus, particularly type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), poses a significant global health challenge. Traditional management strategies primarily focus on glycemic control; however, there is a growing need for comprehensive approaches addressing the complex pathophysiology of diabetes complications. The recent study by Attia explores the potential of a novel therapy combining metformin with cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) and taurine to mitigate T2DM-related complications in a rat model.

Patients admitted with prediabetes and atrial fibrillation are at high risk for major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular events independent of confounding variables. The shared pathophysiology between these three serious but common diseases and their association with atherosclerotic cardiovascular risk factors establish a vicious circle culminating in high atherogenicity. Because of that, it is of paramount importance to perform risk stratification of patients with prediabetes to define phenotypes that benefit from various interventions.

Microorganisms, crucial for environmental equilibrium, could be destructive, resulting in detrimental pathophysiology to the human host. Moreover, with the emergence of antibiotic resistance (ABR), the microbial communities pose the century's largest public health challenges in terms of effective treatment strategies. Furthermore, given the large diversity and number of known bacterial strains, describing treatment choices for infected patients using experimental methodologies is time-consuming.
