The superior photocatalytic activity of TiO nanocrystals with exposed high-energy (001) facets, achieved through the use of hydrofluoric acid as a shape-directing reagent, is widely reported. However, in this study, we report for the first time the detrimental effect of surface fluorination on the photoreactivity of high-energy faceted TiO nanocrystals towards NO oxidation (resulting in a NO removal rate of only 5.9%). This study aims to overcome this limitation by exploring surface defluorination as an effective strategy to enhance the photocatalytic oxidation of NO on TiO nanocrystals enclosed with (001) facets. We found that surface defluorination, achieved through either NaOH washing (resulting in an improved NO removal rate of 23.2%) or calcination (yielding an enhanced NO removal rate of 52%), leads to a large increase in the photocatalytic oxidation of NO on TiO nanocrystals with enclosed (001) facets. Defluorination processes stimulate charge separation, effectively retarding recombination and significantly promoting the production of reactive oxygen species, including superoxide radicals (·O), singlet oxygen (O), and hydroxyl radicals (·OH). Both diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier-transform spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations confirm the higher adsorption of NO after defluorination, thus facilitating the oxidation of NO on TiO nanocrystals.

Weak H-Bond Interface Environment for Stable Aqueous Zinc Batteries.

Hydrogen evolution reaction and Zn dendrite growth, originating from high water activity and the adverse competition between the electrochemical kinetics and mass transfer, are the main constraints for the commercial applications of the aqueous zinc-based batteries. Herein, a weak H-bond interface with a suspension electrolyte is developed by adding TiO nanoparticles into the electrolytes. Owing to the strong polarity of Ti-O bonds in TiO, abundant hydroxyl functional groups are formed between the TiO active surface and aqueous environment, which can produce a weak H-bond interface by disrupting the initial H-bond networks between the water molecules, thereby accelerating the mass transfer of Zn and reducing the water activity.

Efficient thermal management is crucial for optimizing the performance and longevity of automotive engines, particularly as environmental regulations become more stringent and consumer demand for fuel efficiency increases. This paper investigates the energy and exergy performance of a wavy fin-and-tube radiator employing novel ternary nanofluids (TNFs) for enhanced automotive cooling. A theoretical comparative analysis was performed on four distinct ethylene glycol-water solution-based TNF configurations.

The rising production and improper disposal of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO NPs) into aquatic systems present considerable environmental challenges, especially when these particles interact with other contaminants such as cadmium (Cd). Thus, the current study aimed to evaluate the potential toxic effects on the gills, chondrocranium, body growth, and mortality of Aquarana catesbeiana tadpoles. The tadpoles were exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of TiO NPs (10 µg L), and CdCl (10 µg L), both individually and in combination, for 30 days (chronic exposure), along with a control group.

Room-temperature sodium-sulfur (RT Na-S) batteries, known for their high-energy density, low cost and environmental friendliness, have attracted much attention. However, the development of RT Na-S batteries has encountered a number of challenges, including low conductivity and large volume changes of sulfur during the charge-discharge cycles. In this study, TiO nanoparticles modified porous carbon hosts for sulfur in RT Na-S batteries were prepared by a simple and efficient spray drying method combined with solution immersion.
