New chemotherapeutics are urgently required to treat infections caused by drug-resistant strains. The effects of 16 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)/1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione/dicarboxylate complexed with Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ag(I) were evaluated against ten different species. Proliferation of , , , , , , , , and was inhibited by three of six Cu(II) (MICs 1.52-21.55 μM), three of three Ag(I) (MICs 0.11-12.74 μM) and seven of seven Mn(II) (MICs 0.40-38.06 μM) complexes. Among these [Mn(oda)(phen)(HO)][Mn(oda)(phen)(oda)].4HO, where oda = octanedioic acid, exhibited effective growth inhibition (MICs 0.4-3.25 μM), favorable activity indexes, low toxicity against Vero cells and good/excellent selectivity indexes (46.88-375). [Mn(oda)(phen)(HO)][Mn(oda)(phen)(oda)].4HO represents a promising chemotherapeutic option for emerging, medically relevant and drug-resistant species.

This study introduces a novel ion-imprinted polymer for the ultrasensitive detection of mercury(II) in water. The ion-imprinted polymer was synthesized via a simple bulk polymerization process using methacrylic acid as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linker, morpholine-4-carbodithioic acid phenyl ester as the chelating agent, and ammonium persulfate as the initiator. The electrochemical mercury(II) sensing capability of the ion-imprinted polymer was studied via the modification of a cost-effective carbon paste electrode.

The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction (click chemistry approach) was employed to create a hexa-ferrocenylated 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene derivative. Leveraging the presence of metal-chelating sites associated with 1,2,3-triazole moieties and 1,4-dinitrogen systems (ethylenediamine-like), as well as tridentate chelating sites (1,4,7-trinitrogen, diethylene triamine-like) systems, the application of this molecule as a chemosensor for divalent transition metal cations was investigated. The interactions were probed voltammetrically and spectrofluorimetrically against seven selected cations: iron(II) (Fe), cobalt(II) (Co), nickel(II) (Ni), copper(II) (Cu), zinc(II) (Zn), cadmium(II) (Cd), and manganese(II) (Mn).

The structures of nine hydrated metal ions in aqueous solution have been redetermined by large angle X-ray scattering to obtain experimental data of better quality than those reported 40-50 years ago. Accurate M-O and M-(O-H)⋯O distances and M-O(H)⋯O bond angles are reported for the hydrated magnesium(II), aluminium(III), manganese(II), iron(II), iron(III), cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) ions; the subscripts I and II denote oxygen atoms in the first and second hydration sphere, respectively. Reported structures of hydrated metal ions in aqueous solution are summarized and evaluated with emphasis on a possible relationship between M-O-O bond angles and bonding character.

Mixed ligand complexes of manganese(II), cobalt(II), copper(II), and cadmium(II)with an innovative Schiff base ligand denoted as (L), 4-(2-((1E,2E)-1-(2-(p-tolyl)hydrazineylidene)propan-2-ylidene)hydrazineyl), served as the principal ligand, while glycine (L2) was employed as secondary ligand were successfully effectively characterized through a comprehensive set of analyses, including Elemental analysis, UV-Visible, FT-IR, Mass spectra, and conductometric measurements. Density functional theory (DFT) computations were executed to discern the enduring electronic arrangement, the energy gap, dipole moment and chemical hardness of the hybrid ligand assemblies. The proposed geometry for the complexes is a distorted octahedral structure.

Facile Synthesis of Rigid Binuclear Manganese Complexes for Magnetic Resonance Angiography and SLC39A14-Mediated Hepatic Imaging.

National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials, College of Biomedical Engineering, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610065, China.

Manganese(II)-based contrast agents (MBCAs) are potential candidates for gadolinium-free enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In this work, a rigid binuclear MBCA (Mn-PhDTA) with a zero-length linker was developed facile synthetic routes, while the other dimer (Mn-TPA-PhDTA) with a longer rigid linker was also synthesized more complex steps. Although the molecular weight of Mn-PhDTA is lower than that of Mn-TPA-PhDTA, their relaxivities are similar, being increased by over 71% compared to the mononuclear Mn-PhDTA.
