In this study, a methodology is proposed, combining ligand- and structure-based virtual screening tools, for the identification of phosphorus-containing compounds as inhibitors of zinc metalloproteases. First, we use Dragon molecular descriptors to develop a Linear Discriminant Analysis classification model, which is widely validated according to the OECD principles. This model is simple, robust, stable and has good discriminating power. Furthermore, it has a defined applicability domain and it is used for virtual screening of the DrugBank database. Second, docking experiments are carried out on the identified compounds that showed good binding energies to the enzyme thermolysin. Considering the potential toxicity of phosphorus-containing compounds, their toxicological profile is evaluated according to Protox II. Of the five molecules evaluated, two show carcinogenic and mutagenic potential at small LD, not recommended as drugs, while three of them are classified as non-toxic, and could constitute a starting point for the development of new vasoactive metalloprotease inhibitor drugs. According to molecular dynamics simulation, two of them show stable interactions with the active site maintaining coordination with the metal. A high agreement is evident between QSAR, docking and molecular dynamics results, demonstrating the potentialities of the combination of these tools.

Amino acid analogues with a phosphorus-containing moiety replacing the carboxylic group are promising sources of biologically active compounds. The -phosphinic group, with hydrogen-phosphorus-carbon (H-P-C) bonds and a flattened tetrahedral configuration, is a bioisostere of the carboxylic group. Consequently, amino--phosphinic acids undergo substrate-like enzymatic transformations, leading to new biologically active metabolites.

The synthesis and isolation of TerP═GaTer and TerP═InTer (Ter = 2,6-Dipp-CH; Dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl) is reported. These compounds feature unsupported P═Ga and P═In double bonds and two-coordinate triel element centers. Key to the stabilization of such compounds is the steric bulk of the terphenyl substituents, which serve to shield the highly reactive P═E bonds (E = Ga, In) and prevent further aggregation.

Epoxy resins (EPs) are highly flammable, and traditional flame retardant modifications often lead to a significant reduction in their mechanical performance, limiting their applications in aerospace and electrical and electronic fields. In this study, a novel flame retardant, bis(4-(((diphenylphosphoryl)oxy)methyl)phenyl)phenyl phosphate (DMP), was successfully prepared and introduced into the EP matrix. When the addition of DMP was 9 wt%, the EP/9 wt% DMP thermosets passed the UL-94 V-0 rating, and their LOI was increased from 24.

An effective type of polymer heat-insulating material (foams) based on reactive oligomers is casting epoxy foams with high technological and operational parameters. However, polyepoxide foams are highly flammable, which significantly restrains their application in the construction industry. The aim of this work was to develop effective methods for reducing the flammability of filling epoxy foams.
