Published: March 2024

The yeast strain W12 was isolated from an aircraft polymer-coated surface. The genome size is 53,160,883 bp with a G + C content of 50.13%. The genome contains fatty acid transporters, cutinases, hydroxylases, and lipases potentially used for survival on polymer coatings on aircraft.

The operation and efficiency of isolated DC-DC converters, critical components in solid-state transformers, are significantly impacted by leakage inductance in high-frequency transformers (HFTs). Different converters have varying demands regarding leakage inductance, ranging from precise control to minimal inductance. For instance, the performance of bidirectional isolated converters (BIDCs) and resonant converters is dependent on leakage inductance for the delivery of power.

During flight, spatial disorientation (SD) commonly occurs when a pilot's perception conflicts with the aircraft's actual motion, attitude, or position. A prevalent form of SD is the somatogyral illusion, which is elicited by constant speed rotation and causes a false perception of motion in the opposite direction when the rotation ceases. This research aimed to investigate changes in brain activity that occur when experiencing a somatogyral illusion by simulating conditions closely mimicking flight conditions to gain insight into how to better manage this illusion during flight.

Three-Axis Vibration Isolation of a Full-Scale Magnetorheological Seat Suspension.

Micromachines (Basel)

November 2024

InnoVital Systems Inc., Calverton, MD 20705, USA.

This study examines the three-axis vibration isolation capabilities of a full-scale magnetorheological (MR) seat suspension system utilizing experimental methods to assess performance under both single-axis and simultaneous three-axis input conditions. To achieve this, a semi-active MR seat damper was designed and manufactured to address excitations in all three axes. The damper effectiveness was tested experimentally for axial and lateral motions, focusing on dynamic stiffness and loss factor using an MTS machine.

Influence of Temperature on the Damping Properties of Selected Viscoelastic Materials.

Materials (Basel)

November 2024

Doctoral School of Engineering and Technical Sciences, Rzeszow University of Technology, al. Powst. Warszawy 12, 35-959 Rzeszów, Poland.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how temperature affects passive vibration isolation using two viscoelastic materials, butyl rubber and bituminous material.
  • An experimental setup with an aluminum alloy Oberst beam and specialized cooling chamber allowed for vibration tests at temperatures ranging from -2 °C to 22 °C and frequencies between 40 Hz and 4000 Hz.
  • Results indicated resonance frequencies and damping effectiveness vary with temperature, providing insights for designing quieter vehicles and structures.

A novel gram-stain-indeterminate, rod-shaped, endospore-forming, motile, aerobic bacterium, designated JETA1-E2, was isolated from aircraft fuel Jet A1 sample. The strain showed high pairwise similarity values of partial 16S rRNA gene sequences to Sphingomonas paucimobilis (MT367853) (99.42%), Sphingomonas sanguinis (MF319771) (99.
