Ethylene glycol is an essential commodity chemical with high demand, which is conventionally produced via thermocatalytic oxidation of ethylene with huge fossil fuel consumption and CO emission. The one-step electrochemical approach offers a sustainable route but suffers from reliance on noble metal catalysts, low activity, and mediocre selectivity. Herein, we report a one-step electrochemical oxidation of ethylene to ethylene glycol over an earth-abundant metal-based molecular catalyst, a cobalt phthalocyanine supported on a carbon nanotube (CoPc/CNT). The catalyst delivers ethylene glycol with 100% selectivity and 1.78 min turnover frequency at room temperature and ambient pressure, more competitive than those obtained over palladium catalysts. Experimental data demonstrate that the catalyst orchestrates multiple tasks in sequence, involving electrochemical water activation to generate high-valence Co-oxo species, ethylene epoxidation to afford an ethylene oxide intermediate via oxygen transfer, and eventually ring-opening of ethylene oxide to ethylene glycol facilitated by in situ formed Lewis acid site. This work offers a great opportunity for commodity chemicals synthesis based on a one-step, earth-abundant metal-catalyzed, and renewable electricity-driven route.

Drug delivery vehicles optimize therapeutic outcomes by enhancing drug efficacy, minimizing side effects, and providing controlled release. Injectable hydrogels supersede conventional ones in the field of drug delivery owing to their less invasive administration and improved targeting. However, they face challenges such as low biodegradability and biocompatibility, potentially compromising their effectiveness.

Efficient thermal management is crucial for optimizing the performance and longevity of automotive engines, particularly as environmental regulations become more stringent and consumer demand for fuel efficiency increases. This paper investigates the energy and exergy performance of a wavy fin-and-tube radiator employing novel ternary nanofluids (TNFs) for enhanced automotive cooling. A theoretical comparative analysis was performed on four distinct ethylene glycol-water solution-based TNF configurations.

Adsorbents with high selectivity and adsorption capacity are of significant interest for the removal of dye pollutants. Herein, we report a facile low-temperature solvothermal synthesis of clew-like CuO/CuO microspheres by using cupric acetate monohydrate as the copper resource and ethylene glycol as the solvent and morphology modulator. The synthesized CuO/CuO microspheres showed high selective adsorption to anionic dyes (e.

Dynamic liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and associated assembly and disassembly of biomolecular condensates play crucial roles in cellular organization and metabolic networks. These processes are often regulated by supramolecular interactions. However, the complex and disordered structures of IDPs, coupled with their rapid conformational fluctuations, pose significant challenges for reconstructing supramolecularly-regulated dynamic LLPS systems and quantitatively illustrating variations in molecular interactions.

Background: In the realm of plant diseases, those caused by fungi and oomycetes are particularly challenging to manage, resulting in significant economic losses. There exist diverse active substances in natural products and developing them into fungicides holds great significance. At the initial phase of our research, we discovered that Syringa pinnatifolia extract demonstrates broad-spectrum inhibitory activity against phytopathogenic fungi.
