Underbalanced foam drilling stands out as a drilling technique acclaimed for its capacity to enhance safety and efficiency in operations. Utilizing foams as drilling fluids offers several benefits over traditional methods, including lower density, diminished formation damage, and augmented borehole stability. However, the persistent challenge of sustaining foam stability in demanding conditions, particularly amid elevated water salinity and alkaline environments, remains a critical issue. Current literature lacks comprehensive insights into foam stability under such specific circumstances, raising concerns about the practicality of numerous reported foaming agents in field applications. This study aims to fill this knowledge void to align with industry standards. With a heightened focus on sustainability due to mounting environmental considerations, the research explores the use of an eco-friendly surfactant, ammonium alcohol ether sulfate (AAES). Additionally, the investigation delves into the impact of environmentally friendly drilling additives-polyanionic cellulose (PAC), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and starch-on the stability of bulk foam under mildly alkaline conditions. Employing a dynamic foam analyzer, diverse foam properties of AAES foams were assessed, encompassing stability, foamability, and bubble structure. The results demonstrated that the optimal concentrations of the tested additives, in the order of PAC > CMC > starch, significantly prolonged the half-life of the AAES foam bubbles. The introduction of PAC and CMC additives elevated the viscosity of AAES foaming solutions, enhancing the liquid retention within the foam structure. In contrast, starch addition exerted no influence on the solution viscosity and did not impede liquid drainage, although it did reduce bubble coalescence. Furthermore, the PAC- and CMC-based AAES foams manifested as considerably wetter foams with a rounded bubble structure, while the starch-based AAES foam exhibited a dry foam characterized by a distinct polyhedral bubble structure. These findings offer valuable insights into the potential application of the AAES surfactant in foam drilling, showcasing its efficacy in improving foam stability and contributing to the evolution of eco-friendly drilling practices.

The main purpose of this study is to prepare a melamine aniline formaldehyde foam, an MAF copolymer, with lower water sensitivity and non-flammability properties obtained by the condensation reaction of melamine, aniline, and formaldehyde. In addition, the preparation of MAFF composites with organoclay reinforcement was determined as a secondary target in order to obtain better mechanical strength, heat, and sound insulation properties. For the synthesis of foams, the microwave irradiation technique, which offers advantages such as faster reactions, high yields and purities, and reduced curing times, was used together with the heating technique and the effect of organoclay content on the structural and textural properties of foams and both heat insulation and mechanical stability was investigated.

Natural fiber-reinforced composites are composite materials composed of natural fibers, such as plant fibers and synthetic biopolymers. These environmentally friendly composites are biodegradable, renewable, cheap, lightweight, and low-density, attracting attention as eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic fiber-reinforced composites. In this study, natural fiber-reinforced polymer foam core layered composites were produced for the automotive industry.

In this study, CO reacted with a curing agent through nucleophilic addition to form ammonium salts, enabling the stable capture and internal release of CO, which achieved gas-phase nucleation and foaming. Additionally, the introduction of wave-absorbing agents improved the absorption mechanism and promoted uniform foaming. This nucleation-free foaming process relies on the induced growth of gas nuclei and the synergistic effect of the wave-absorbing agents, effectively preventing the uneven foaming issues caused by traditional nucleating agents.

The synergistic effect of CNT and three-dimensional N-doped graphene foam (3DNG) on improving corrosion resistance of zinc-reinforced epoxy (ZRE) composite coatings was studied in this work. Although CNT itself was demonstrated to be effective to promote the anti-corrosion performance of the ZRE coating, the incorporation of additional 3DNG leads to further enhancement of its corrosion resistance under the synergistic effect of the hybrid carbon nanofillers with different dimensions. Both the content of the carbonaceous fillers and the ratio between them affected the performance of the coating.

The most commonly used methods to chemically assess grape and wine quality with high sensitivity and selectivity require lengthy analysis time and can be resource intensive. Here, we developed a rapid and non-destructive method that would help in grading and decision support. In this work, we demonstrate that integrating a three-dimensional (3D) material for volatile sampling with mass spectrometry detection can be used to sample grapes for phytosanitary, quality or smoke-taint assessments at low levels of marker compounds.
