The spherical materials TiO-SiO-PO/CaO, TiO-SiO-PO/LaO, and TiO-SiO-PO/ZnO deposited on the Tokem-250 cation exchanger have been synthesized with an alcoholic solution by the sol-gel method. The macroporous cation exchanger Tokem-250, which has high Ca, Zn, and La ion selectivity, was used in the present study. This material has the ability to precipitate and mineralize calcium phosphates on its surface in biological media, since it has high porosity, a homogeneous structure with a uniform variation of elements, and the presence of active centers (Si, Ti) on the surface. The effect of lanthanum and zinc additives on biological properties has been studied. It was established that accumulation of Ca and Mg occurs faster on the surface of TiO-SiO-PO/ZnO in the SBF (simulated body fluid) model solution, showing higher reaction capacity. The amount of calcium and phosphorus ions on the surface of sample TiO-SiO-PO/LaO is greater due to the ability of lanthanum to coordinate a large number of ions (lanthanum coordination number is 10). The presence of zinc ions in the system causes the partial hemoglobin release from erythrocytes into the supernatant fluid. The samples with lanthanum ions reduce the amount of protein in plasma after incubation, which has a positive effect on the practical application.

Currently, there are still obstacles to rationally designing the ligand fields to activate rare-earth (RE) elements with satisfactory intrinsic electrocatalytic reactivity. Herein, axial coordination strategies and nanostructure design are applied for the construction of La single atoms (La-Cl SAs/NHPC) with satisfactory oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity. The nontrivial LaNCl motifs configuration and the hierarchical porous carbon substrate that facilitates maximized metal atom utilization ensure high half-wave potential (0.

Article Synopsis
  • Rice is a key food in Iran, with large imports from India and Pakistan, but these imports are found to contain dangerous levels of heavy metals that could harm health.
  • A study tested 60 rice samples for 34 different metals, using advanced analysis methods, to evaluate potential health risks associated with consumption, particularly focusing on carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic metals.
  • The results showed that certain samples exceeded safe metal limits, indicating a significant cancer risk for both adults and children, highlighting an urgent need for improved public health measures related to imported rice.

Background: Photon counting detectors (PCDs) for x-ray computed tomography (CT) are the future of CT imaging. At present, semiconductor-based PCDs such as cadmium telluride (CdTe), cadmium zinc telluride, and silicon have been either used or investigated for clinical PCD CT. Unfortunately, all of them have the same major challenges, namely high cost and limited spectral signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
