A 70-year-old man developed intermittent fever with chills, severe anorexia, generalized weakness, and mild exertional difficulty in breathing following posterior chamber intraocular lens replacement surgery for a mature white cataract in the left eye. Laboratory tests revealed persistent negative blood cultures, normocytic and normochromic anemia, neutrophilia, and elevated inflammatory markers despite multiple courses of antibiotics. All other investigations conducted to identify the cause of prolonged fever, including transthoracic echocardiography, were negative.

As the aging process accelerates and living conditions improve, central nervous system (CNS) diseases have become a major public health problem. Diseases of the CNS cause not only gray matter damage, which is primarily characterized by the loss of neurons, but also white matter damage. However, most previous studies have focused on grey matter injury (GMI), with fewer studies on white matter injury (WMI).

Background: Dyslipidemia presents in various autoimmune diseases, and the serum lipid profile in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has not yet been clearly defined. This study aims to evaluate the level of serum lipids in patients with SLE.
Methods: A case-control study evaluated four conventional sera lipids-total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-in patients with SLE compared to healthy controls (HCs).

Lipases such as patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) exist in multiple tissue types. In subcutaneous adipose tissue, PNPLA3 was not altered during the periparturient period. Conversely, strong associations between liver PNPLA3 and liver triglyceride content peripartum were identified and confirmed to be causative using knockdown approaches in a primary bovine hepatocyte model.

Background: Low-volume blood tubes offer several advantages in facilitating blood collection, reducing iatrogenic anemia and spurious hemolysis, but their clinical reliability must be validated. We planned this investigation for establishing the reliability of routine hematologic testing in low-volume tubes before their implementation into clinical practice.
Methods: Blood was drawn from 44 ostensibly healthy laboratory professionals into three blood tubes, as follows: 3.
