Introduction: Alcohol consumption poses a significant health risk, contributing to 10% of deaths in the WHO European Region. To combat this, the WHO recommends the implementation of its 'best buy' policies-three cost-effective alcohol policies that include higher taxes, restricted availability and marketing bans. While evidence links alcohol marketing to increased consumption, the effectiveness of marketing bans in decreasing alcohol use remains inconclusive.

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Toronto, Canada; Department of Nutrition, University of Oslo, Norway. Electronic address:

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a devastating disease which remains poorly understood. Increasing evidence suggests that the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) plays a role in the pathogenesis of several cancers; however, its role in PDAC is unclear because AHR exhibits both pro- and anti-tumor activities. Here we evaluated the role of AHR in CR705 and K8484 murine PDAC cells in vitro and CR705 cells in vivo.

Pathogens in nearshore coastal waters have far-reaching public health and economic implications. Faecal indicator organisms (FIOs) are commonly monitored and modelled to indicate pathogen levels in waterbodies. FIO decay modelling is an integral part of numerical hydro-epidemiological models to simulate the die-off of FIOs in the water bodies.

Most current dietary guidelines for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) recommend the consumption of low-fat dairy in place of regular-fat dairy foods, one of the main sources of dietary saturated fatty acids (SFAs). Here, we summarise the data presented and discussions held - relating to the validity of such recommendations - between a panel of international nutrition research experts at a high-level closed workshop on 'Saturated Fat in Dairy and Cardiovascular Diseases', which took place in Amsterdam on 15-16 April 2024. The most recent evidence indicates that overall, consumption of milk, yogurt and cheese, irrespective of fat content, is neutrally associated with CVD risk.

In his classic work L'ancien régime et la révolution, Alexis de Tocqueville proposes a reinterpretation of the French Revolution: behind the spectacular ruptures associated with the event, profound continuities are at play. Beyond the specific case of the French Revolution, Tocqueville calls for vigilance in mobilizing the notion of revolution to account for historical dynamics. In this contribution, I propose to apply this vigilance to account for the supposed "Big Data revolution" in the field of European insurance.
