Molecular electronics targets tiny devices exploiting the electronic properties of the molecular orbitals, which can be tailored and controlled by the chemical structure and configuration of the molecules. Many functional devices have been experimentally demonstrated; however, these devices were operated in the low-frequency domain (mainly dc to MHz). This represents a serious limitation for electronic applications, although molecular devices working in the THz regime have been theoretically predicted. Here, we experimentally demonstrate molecular THz switches at room temperature. The devices consist of self-assembled monolayers of molecules bearing two conjugated moieties coupled through a nonconjugated linker. These devices exhibit clear negative differential conductance behaviors (peaks in the current-voltage curves), as confirmed by simulations, which were reversibly suppressed under illumination with a 30 THz wave. We analyze how the THz switching behavior depends on the THz wave properties (power and frequency), and we benchmark that these molecular devices would outperform actual THz detectors.

Construction of single probes for simultaneous detection of common trivalent metal ions has attracted much attention due to higher efficiency in analysis and cost. A naphthalimide-based fluorescent probe K1 was synthesized for selective detection of Al, Cr and Fe ions. Fluorescence emission intensity at 534 nm of probe K1 in DMSO/HO (9:1, v/v) was significantly enhanced upon addition of Al, Cr and Fe ions while addition of other metal ions (Li, Na, K, Ag, Cu, Fe, Zn, Co, Ni, Mn, Sr, Hg, Ca, Mg, Ce, Bi and Au) did not bring about substantial change in fluorescence emission.

Nitrogen fixation is essential for the sustainable development of both human society and the environment. Due to the chemical inertness of the N≡N bond, the traditional Haber-Bosch process operates under extreme conditions, making nitrogen fixation under ambient conditions highly desirable but challenging. In this study, we present an ultrasonic atomizing microdroplet method that achieves nitrogen fixation using water and air under ambient conditions in a rationally designed sealed device, without the need for any catalyst.

In this paper, a novel molecularly imprinted polymer membrane modified glassy carbon electrode for electrochemical sensors (MIP-OH-MWCNTs-GCE) for epinephrine (EP) was successfully prepared by a gel-sol method using an optimized functional monomer oligosilsesquioxane-AlO sol-ITO composite sol (ITO-POSS-AlO). Hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (OH-MWCNTs) were introduced during the modification of the electrodes, and the electrochemical behavior of EP on the molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensors was probed by the differential pulse velocity (DPV) method. The experimental conditions were optimized.

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecological neoplasm with an increased incidence in the premenopausal population in recent decades. This raises the problem of managing endometrial cancer in fertile women who have not yet achieved pregnancy. In these women, after careful selection, hysterectomy may be postponed in favor of conservative management if specific requirements are met.

MicroRNA (miR)-126 is frequently downregulated in malignancies, including breast cancer (BC). Despite its tumor-suppressive role, the mechanisms underlying miR-126 deregulation in BC remain elusive. Through silencing experiments, we identified Early B Cell Factor 1 (EBF1), ETS Proto-Oncogene 2 (ETS2), and Krüppel-Like Factor 2 (KLF2) as pivotal regulators of miR-126 expression.
