The study involves a collection of data from the published article titled "Active sites engineered biomass-carbon as a catalyst for biodiesel production: Process optimization using RSM and life cycle assessment "" journal. Here, the activated biochar was functionalized using 4-diazoniobenzenesulfonate to obtain sulfonic acid functionalized activated biochar. The catalyst was comprehensively characterized using XRD, FTIR, TGA, NH-TPD, SEM-EDS, TEM, BET, and XPS analysis. Further, the obtained catalyst was applied for the transesterification of oil (JCO) to produce biodiesel. An experimental matrix was conducted using the RSM-CCD approach and the resulting data were analyzed using multiple regressions to fit a quadratic equation, where the maximum biodiesel yield achieved was 97.1 ± 0.4%, under specific reaction conditions: a reaction time of 50.3 min, a molar ratio of 22.9:1, a reaction temperature of 96.2 °C, and a catalyst loading of 7.7 wt.%. The obtained product biodiesel was analyzed using NMR and GC-MS analyzed and is reported in the above-mentioned article.

As the demand for sustainable energy sources intensifies, biodiesel emerges as a compelling renewable alternative to petroleum-based fuels. Leveraging waste cooking oil (WCO) as a feedstock not only offers an environmentally friendly fuel source but also addresses waste disposal issues. However, biodiesel production from WCO faces challenges, particularly due to its high free fatty acid (FFA) content, which can hinder efficient conversion and lead to soap formation in traditional alkaline-catalysed processes.

Lubricants are pivotal in mitigating friction and wear between surfaces, ensuring seamless movement of solid objects. However, the predominant use of petroleum-based lubricants in the automotive and industrial ssectors raises substantial concerns for future energy security. The exploration of vegetable oils as an alternative lubricant in the automotive industry was motivated by the depletion of fossil fuels and escalating environmental concerns.

An applicable and highly efficient methodology for the preparation of medium- and long-chain triglycerides (MLCTs) via the enzymatic transesterification of coconut oil with long-chain fatty acid triglycerides, named camellia oil, olive oil, linseed oil, algal oil, and rapeseed oil, respectively, has been proposed. The novel system achieved equilibrium in 5 min, and the MLCT yield ranged from 78.7 to 83.

The process to synthesize biodiesel is well-developed and optimized to overcome the disadvantages like the competition with agriculture using feedstock, and the problematics in the process. Oils from waste and enzymatic catalysis have proven to be good solutions to these problems. Lipases are currently the most commonly used enzymes in the transesterification of oils; nevertheless, enzymes have a high cost and must be immobilized to offer repetitive reuse.
