Transcriptome-wide association studies identify candidate genes for carcass and meat traits in meat rabbits.

Front Vet Sci

Farm Animal Genetic Resources Exploration and Innovation Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Agricultural University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Meat rabbits are a small herbivorous livestock and have been popularly raised in China for producing high-quality meat. Therefore, it is economically important to genetically improve both carcass performance and meat quality in meat rabbits. However, we still know less about the underlying candidate genes that may determine phenotypic variation on carcass and meat traits of meat rabbits.

Exploitation is a common feature of social interactions, which can be modified by ecological context. Here we investigate effects of ecological history on exploitation phenotypes in bacteria. In experiments with the bacterium Myxococcus xanthus, prior resource levels of different genotypes interacting during cooperative multicellular development were found to regulate social fitness, including whether cheating occurs.

Assistant Professor, Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA; Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Belmont, MA. Electronic address:

Background: Fibrous dysplasia/McCune-Albright syndrome (FD/MAS) is a genetic disorder, marked by bone lesions, often affecting the craniofacial skeleton. Pain is a prevalent yet heterogeneous symptom reported by patients with craniofacial FD. Effective treatments are currently lacking, posing a significant clinical challenge to patient care.

Aims/hypothesis: Insulin resistance and compensatory hyperinsulinaemia are core features leading to beta cell failure in youth-onset type 2 diabetes. Insulin clearance (IC) is also a key regulator of insulin concentrations, but few data exist on IC in youth-onset type 2 diabetes. In a secondary analysis of our Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) randomised clinical trial, we investigated potential sex-, race-, ethnicity- and treatment-related differences in IC in youth-onset type 2 diabetes and aimed to identify metabolic phenotypes associated with IC at baseline and in response to metformin, metformin plus a lifestyle intervention, and metformin plus rosiglitazone.

The flavan-3-ol (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) blunts obesity in inbred mice, but human clinical trials have yielded mixed results. Genetic homogeneity in preclinical models may explain translational disconnect between rodents and humans. The Diversity Outbred (DO) mouse model provides genotype and phenotype variability for characterization of gene x environment (i.
