Aim: To achieve an in-depth understanding of the challenges associated with diabetes management when having both schizophrenia and type 2 diabetes, while also identifying the needs for improved diabetes self-care.
Design: The study employed a qualitative explorative design utilizing a phenomenological-hermeneutic inspired approach, involving field observations and individual semistructured interviews.
Methods: Data were collected during 2020-2021 through 17 field observations of outpatient consultations and 13 individual semistructured interviews. Data, including field notes and verbatim transcribed interviews, underwent analysis following Ricoeur's interpretive philosophy, encompassing three levels: naïve reading, structural analysis and critical interpretation and discussion. This study adheres to the COREQ guidelines for qualitative research.
Results: Three key themes emerged: 'Diabetes when life is noisy', 'Sacrifices and compromises in life' and 'The double silence'. Everyday life is significantly affected when having both schizophrenia and T2D. The mental health state dominates in relation to diabetes self-care and individuals experience challenges balancing between the two conditions. However, there exists a general acknowledgement for diabetes and its long-term complications as a serious medical condition demanding careful attention and treatment.
Conclusion: Self-managing two such complex conditions can be overwhelming and make it difficult for the individual to differentiate symptoms and prioritize diabetes care. Moreover, the existing fragmentation within healthcare systems poses communication challenges, resulting in disjointed patient pathways.
Implications For Patient Care: The study emphasizes the need for a holistic re that addresses the physical, emotional and social challenges. There is also a need for increased awareness and education among informal caregivers and healthcare professionals to foster better understanding and support.

Neurodegenerative disorders are characterized by a progressive loss of neurons, causing substantial deficits in motor and cognitive functioning. Bilirubin is a yellow by-product of heme, existing in two primary isoforms namely unconjugated and conjugated, while initially produced unconjugated isomer is lipophilic and cytotoxic in nature. At physiological levels, bilirubin has an important role in brain function by acting as a powerful antioxidant, preventing brain tissues from oxidative damage by eliminating reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Background: Past studies associating personality with psychosis have been limited by small nonclinical samples and a focus on general symptom burden. This study uses a large clinical sample to examine personality's relationship with psychosis-specific features and compare personality dimensions across clinically and neurobiologically defined categories of psychoses.
Methods: A total of 1352 participants with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar with psychosis, as well as 623 healthy controls (HC), drawn from the Bipolar-Schizophrenia Network for Intermediate Phenotypes (BSNIP-2) study, were included.

Controversy exists regarding whether the spontaneity of altercentric intrusion is impaired in patients with schizophrenia during implicit visual perspective-taking tasks. This study explored the characteristics of spontaneous visual perspective-taking in patients with schizophrenia and the effect of an avatar identity on their perspective-taking. We recruited 65 patients with schizophrenia and 65 healthy participants to complete 4 visual perspective-taking experiments for uncued other-avatar and self-avatar tasks and cued other-avatar and self-avatar tasks.

Numerous observational studies have highlighted associations between mitochondrial dysfunction and schizophrenia (SCZ), yet the causal relationship remains elusive. This study aims to elucidate the causal link between mitochondria-associated proteins and SCZ. We used summary data from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 66 mitochondria-associated proteins in 3,301 individuals from Europe, as well as a GWAS on the large, multi-ethnic ancestry of SCZ, involving 76,755 cases and 243,649 controls.
