is an emerging model system used to study development, evolution, and behavior of multiple cavefish populations that have repeatedly evolved from conspecific surface fish. Although surface and cavefish live and breed in the laboratory, there are no rapid methods for distinguishing between different cavefish populations. We present 2 methods for genotyping fish for a total of 16 population-specific markers using methods that are easy and inexpensive to implement in a basic molecular biology laboratory. This resource will help researchers maintain independent stocks within the laboratory and distinguish between fish from different populations.

Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying thermal acclimation and heat shock responses (HSR) in marine ectotherms is critical for assessing their adaptive capacity in the context of climate change and climate extremes. This study examines the expression dynamics of heat shock proteins (HSPs) in the scallop Nodipecten subnodosus, shedding light on their role in thermal adaptation. Our analysis revealed the presence of several conserved functional signatures in N.

Genome-wide association study (GWAS) is a powerful tool for identifying marker-trait associations that can accelerate breeding progress. Yet, its power is typically constrained in newly established breeding programs where large phenotypic and genotypic datasets have not yet accumulated. Expanding the dataset by inclusion of data from well-established breeding programs with many years of phenotyping and genotyping can potentially address this problem.

Aims/hypothesis: Metformin is an important first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes and acts by increasing the body's ability to dispose of glucose. Metformin's efficacy can be affected by genetic variants in the transporters that regulate its uptake into cells. The SLC22A3 gene (also known as EMT; EMTH; OCT3) codes for organic cation transporter 3 (OCT3), which is a broad-specificity cation transporter that also transports metformin.

Introduction: Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a key marker for prostate cancer screening, but its utility is debated, prompting exploration of PSA derivatives for improved accuracy. While racial variations in serum PSA levels are documented, limited data exists for the Indian population. Given increasing life expectancy and heightened awareness of prostate cancer, this study aims to establish age-specific PSA ranges in an Indian cohort, contributing vital insights for population-specific screening and diagnosis.

Large-scale selection of highly informative microhaplotypes for ancestry inference and population specific informativeness.

Institute of Statistical Sciences, School of Mathematics, Woodland Road, University of Bristol, Bristol BS8 1UG, UK; MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit, School of Medicine, Oakfield Grove, University of Bristol, Bristol BS8 2BN, UK. Electronic address:

Microhaplotypes (MHs) describe physically close genetic markers that are inherited together and are gaining prominence due to their efficiency in forensic, clinical, and population studies. They excel in kinship analysis, DNA mixture detection, and ancestry inference, offering advantages in precision over individual SNPs and STRs. In this study, a pipeline was developed to efficiently select highly informative MHs from large-scale genomic datasets.
