This paper presents a numerical framework for designing diffuse fields in rooms of any shape and size, driven at arbitrary frequencies. That is, we aim at overcoming the Schroeder frequency limit for generating diffuse fields in an enclosed space. We formulate the problem as a Tikhonov regularized inverse problem and propose a low-rank approximation of the spatial correlation that results in significant computational gains. Our approximation is applicable to arbitrary sets of target points and allows us to produce an optimal design at a computational cost that grows only linearly with the (potentially large) number of target points. We demonstrate the feasibility of our approach through numerical examples where we approximate diffuse fields at frequencies well below the Schroeder limit.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease associated with functional and structural alterations beyond the nigrostriatal dopamine projection. However, the structural-functional (SC-FC) coupling changes in combination with subcortical regions at the network level are rarely investigated in PD.
Methods: SC-FC coupling networks were systematically constructed using the structural connectivity obtained by diffusion tensor imaging and the functional connectivity obtained by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging in 53 PD and 72 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs).

The prediction of the remaining useful life (RUL) holds significant importance within the field of prognostics and health management (PHM), which may provide lifetime information about the system. The foundation for effectively estimating RUL is constructing an applicable degradation model for the system. However, the majority of existing degradation models only consider the issue of age dependence and disregard state dependence.

The reaction coefficient for hydrogen/deuterium (H/D) exchange and the diffusion of hydrated excess protons within amorphous solid water (ASW) are characterized as a function of temperature. For these experiments, water films are deposited on a Pt(111) substrate at 108 K, and reactions with pre-adsorbed hydrogen atoms produce hydrated protons. Upon heating, protons diffuse within the water, and H/D exchange occurs when they encounter D2O probe molecules deposited in the films.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) after high-energy, behind helmet blunt trauma (BHBT) is an important but poorly understood clinical entity often associated with apnea and death in humans. In this study, we use a swine model of high-energy BHBT to characterize key neuropathologies and their association with acute respiratory decompensation. Animals with either stable or critical vital signs were euthanized within 4 h after injury for neuropathological assessment, with emphasis on axonal and vascular pathologies in the brainstem.

Increasing electrode thickness is a key strategy to boost energy density in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which is essential for electric vehicles and energy storage applications. However, thick electrodes face significant challenges, including poor ion transport, long diffusion paths, and mechanical instability, all of which degrade battery performance. To overcome these barriers, a novel micro-electric-field (μ-EF) process is introduced that enhances particle alignment during fabrication with reduced distance between anode and cathode.
