Two π-extended cobalt porphyrins are synthesized and one of them is crystallographically characterized. The nanocomposites of nonplanar () porphyrin immobilized multi-walled carbon nanotubes were thoroughly characterized spectroscopically and microscopically, showing ∼200 mV positive shift in the O reduction peak potential in aqueous media and ∼100 mV shift in the onset potential of the O reduction relative to the control -tetraphenylporphyrinatocobalt(II) nanocomposite. Both the π-extended cobalt porphyrin immobilized nanocomposites efficiently catalyze selective 4e/4H O reduction under ambient conditions with excellent methanol tolerance and high stability due to effective π-π interactions, and could be an alternative for expensive Pt-based cathode materials in fuel cells.

Heterogeneous photoelectrocatalysis systems have recently seen significant growth in organic transformations, but are limited by the inherent physicochemical properties of electrode materials. To enhance selectivity in these processes, we propose an innovative advancement in the rational design of photoanodes. Specifically, we incorporated cobalt porphyrin co-catalysts with confined Co sites onto bismuth vanadate films as a photoanode.

The interaction between different metals (M), axial ligands (L), and ring substituents (R) in porphyrins was investigated using density functional theory. Different combinations of iron and cobalt as metal centers; imidazole, chlorine, and an n-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) as axial ligands, and unsubstituted, octaethyl-, and tetraphenyl-porphyrins were explored in their low, intermediate, and high-spin states, alongside oxygen affinity. Remarkably, the n-heterocyclic carbene enhanced the affinity of cobalt porphyrins to oxygen, with binding energies on average 4.

Porphyrinic hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (porph-HOFs) have emerged as highly promising materials in the realm of photocatalysis due to their remarkable attributes, including low density, high surface area, efficient visible light absorption, and notable chemical stability. However, the rapid recombination of photogenerated charges remains a significant concern. In this work, a novel HOF-based photocatalyst, PFC-72/TiO was successfully designed with visible light response and high electron transfer capability.

Article Synopsis
  • The letter explores two catalysts, DAE-BPy-CoPor and Co-TAPP, in their roles for improving the oxygen-tolerant CO electroreduction reaction (CORR), particularly highlighting their activity range between -0.60 to -1.10 V under co-feeding conditions with CO and O.
  • The study utilizes grand canonical density functional theory (GC-DFT) and microkinetic simulation to determine how the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) influences the turnover frequency (TOF) of CORR, categorizing HER effects based on positive and negative hydrogen formation energies.
  • The effects of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on CORR are analyzed in three distinct scenarios, ranging from negligible influence on TOF to cases where
