In this study, the present research describes a high-yield method for the synthesis of sulfonyl 2-aryl-5-methylenetetrahydropyrans by one-pot straightforward DABCO-promoted intramolecular Michael addition of β-sulfonyl styrene with 2-chloromethyl-1-propenol followed by intramolecular alkylation. This Baylis-Hillman-type pathway provides a highly effective stereoselective annulation by forming one carbon-oxygen bond and one carbon-carbon bond.

Deoxygenation of aldehydes and their tautomers to alkenes and alkanes has implications in refining biomass-derived fuels for use as transportation fuel. Electrochemical deoxygenation in ambient, aqueous solution is also a potential green synthesis strategy for terminal olefins. In this manuscript, direct electrochemical conversion of vinyl alcohol and acetaldehyde on polycrystalline Cu to ethanol, ethylene and ethane; and propenol and propionaldehyde to propanol, propene and propane is reported.

Folk experiences suggest natural products in can be effective inhibitors towards diabetes-related enzymes. The compounds were experimentally isolated, structurally elucidated, and tested in vitro for their inhibition effects on tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) and α-glucosidase (3W37). Density functional theory and molecular docking techniques were utilized as computational methods to predict the stability of the ligands and simulate interaction between the studied inhibitory agents and the targeted proteins.

The Role of the Surface Acid-Base Nature of Nanocrystalline Hydroxyapatite Catalysts in the 1,6-Hexanediol Conversion.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

March 2021

Research Laboratory of Hydrothermal Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Kochi University, 2-17-47 Asakurahonmachi, Kochi 780-8073, Japan.

Hydroxyapatite is known to have excellent catalytic properties for ethanol conversion and lactic acid conversion, and their properties are influenced by the elemental composition, such as Ca/P ratio and sodium content. However, few reports have been examined for the surface acid-base nature of hydroxyapatites containing sodium ions. We prepared nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (Ca-HAP) catalysts with various Ca/P ratios and sodium contents by the hydrothermal method.

Exploring the Reaction Pathways of Bioglycerol Hydrodeoxygenation to Propene over Molybdena-Based Catalysts.

ChemSusChem

January 2018

Department of Chemical Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University campus, Thessaloniki, 54124, Greece.

The one-step reaction of glycerol with hydrogen to form propene selectively is a particularly challenging catalytic pathway that has not yet been explored thoroughly. Molybdena-based catalysts are active and selective to C-O bond scission; propene is the only product in the gas phase under the standard reaction conditions, and further hydrogenation to propane is impeded. Within this context, this work focuses on the exploration of the reaction pathways and the investigation of various parameters that affect the catalytic performance, such as the role of hydrogen on the product distribution and the effect of the catalyst pretreatment step.
