Phytochemical study of the species Kaunia lasiophthalma enabled the isolation of three undescribed and three known guaianolide-type sesquiterpene lactones, and one new benzofuran. The bioguided fractionation methodology was successful in detecting antimicrobial metabolites against Staphylococcus aureus strains and permitted the description of undescribed guaianolide-type sesquiterpene lactones with substitution patterns matching all those described in the Oxylobinae subtribe.

Six undescribed sesquiterpene lactones (1-6) and fifteen known compounds (7-21) were isolated from Seriphidium transiliense. The chemical structures were determined by extensive NMR spectroscopic data, HRESIMS, ECD and X-ray diffraction. Among the known compounds, twelve known compounds were isolated for the first time from this plant, including taurine (9), 11-epitaurin (10), α-santonin (11), artesin (13), 11-epiartesin (14), 1α-hydroxy-3β-acetoxyeudesm-4-en-6β, 7α, 11βH-12, 6-olide (15), 1α-hydroxy-3β-acetoxyeudesm-4-en-6β, 7α, 11αH-12, 6-olide (16), artegallin (17), 8α-hydroxytaurin (18), 8α-acetoxytaurine (19), methyl-4α-hydroxy-11(13)-eudesmen-12-oatesaniculamoid D (20), and saniculamoid D (21).

Sesquiterpene lactones (SLs) are a class of natural products with diverse structural scaffoldings and biological activities, making them intriguing objects in the fields of pharmaceutical industry, drug development, and pharmacology. Herein, fifteen SLs, including eleven undescribed SLs compounds sauruintones A-K (1-8 and 13-15), were isolated and identified from the aerial parts of Saussurea involucrata. Their structures were characterized by using mass spectrometry, spectroscopic methods, computational calculations, and single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Twelve picrotoxane-type sesquiterpenoids were isolated from Dendrobium wardianum, of which dendrowardins K-N (1-4) are new compounds and dendrowardins O and P (9, 10) are new natural products. Notably, the structure of dendrowardin K contains the rarely observed 10,11-γ-lactone ring. The structural configurations of these compounds were determined through comprehensive 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and other spectroscopic analyses.

Laser capture microdissection(LCM) combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) was employed to investigate the distribution of volatile compound in the secretory cavities of different tissues(cortex, phloem, xylem, and pith) in different rhizome sections of wild Atractylodes lancea. The same method was used to study the metabolic characteristics of the volatile compounds in the secretory cavities of different rhizome tissues of A. lancea transplanted for 1-3 years.
