Heterobimetallic Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) synergically combine the properties of two metal ions, thus offering significant advantages over homometallic MOFs in gas storage, separation, and catalysis, among other applications. However, these remain centered on bulk materials, while applications that require functional coatings on solid supports are not developed. We explore for the first time the deposition of heterometallic Ti-based MOF thin films using vapor-assisted conversion on substrates functionalized with a self-assembled monolayer. Furthermore, metal-induced dynamic topological transformation allows the conversion of MUV-10(Ca) films into MUV-101(Co) and MUV-102(Cu), which is not accessible through direct synthesis, without morphologically altering the films. These nonconventional thin-film deposition techniques enable homogeneous and crystalline coatings of heterometallic titanium MOFs that also maintain their corresponding porosity.

Owing to their well-defined crystalline pore structures and ordered functional ionic groups along the skeleton, ionic covalent organic frameworks (iCOFs) exhibit excellent performance and have significant potential for use in energy storage and conversion devices. Herein, we for the first time developed cationic phosphonium COFs with high hydroxide conduction even with low ion exchange capacity (IEC). Specifically, we synthesized COFs containing quaternary phosphonium groups as excellent ion transport moieties.

Heterojunction formed via 3D-to-2D perovskite conversion for photostable wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells.

Light-induced halide segregation constrains the photovoltaic performance and stability of wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells and tandem cells. The implementation of an intermixed two-dimensional/three-dimensional heterostructure via solution post-treatment is a typical strategy to improve the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells. However, owing to the composition-dependent sensitivity of surface reconstruction, the conventional solution post-treatment is suboptimal for methylammonium-free and cesium/bromide-enriched wide-bandgap PSCs.

Formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI) is the most promising perovskite material for producing efficient perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here, we develop a facile method to obtain an α-phase FAPbI layer with passivated grain boundaries and weakened non-radiative recombination. For this aim, during the FAPbI fabrication process, cetrimonium bromide + 5% potassium thiocyanate (CTABr + 5% KSCN) vapor post-treatment is introduced to remove non-perovskite phases in the FAPbI layer.

Thin films of Co-MOF-74 and Ni-MOF-74 were synthesized on Au-coated quartz crystal microbalance substrates by a vapor-assisted conversion (VAC) method that precludes the need for activation via postsynthetic solvent exchange. All thin films were structurally characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images reveal that the Ni-MOF-74 films exists as a dense base layer with hemispherical protrusions on the surface.
