Background: Inpatient treatment of severe mentally ill patients binds substantial resources and creates the dilemma of "revolving-door hospitalizations". Evidence suggests that these patients benefit more from an assertive outreach community psychiatric treatment. This descriptive study evaluates the implementation of a new treatment program for severe mentally ill patients provided by a flexible assertive community treatment (FACT) team.
Methods: An uncontrolled design with routine data was used to measure the total length of stays, readmission rates and number of contacts one year prior to the implementation of the FACT program and the following first three years of treatment.
Results: A continuous decrease of hospitalization among patients with severe mental illness was observed with the implementation of the FACT program with declines in total length of stays and readmission rates and accompanied with a decreasing number of contacts per year.
Conclusion: Our findings indicate that this program may create effects in stabilizing patients with severe mental illness and may be highly relevant also for other patient groups.

Background: Cerebral autoregulation is a robust regulatory mechanism that stabilizes cerebral blood flow in response to reduced blood pressure, thereby preventing cerebral ischaemia. Scientists have long believed that cerebral autoregulation also stabilizes cerebral blood flow against increases in intracranial pressure, which is another component that determines cerebral perfusion pressure. However, this idea was inconsistent with the complex pathogenesis of normal pressure hydrocephalus, which includes components of chronic cerebral ischaemia due to mild increases in intracranial pressure.

Introduction: FTY720 bioactive lipid has proliferative, osteoinductive, chemo attractive, and angiogenic properties, being thus a potential exogenous administered agent for promotion of bone regeneration. Herein we developed FTY720-loaded liposomes as a potential delivery system that could retain and prolong the bioactivity of the bioactive lipid and at the same time reduce its cytotoxicity (at high doses).
Methods: FTY720 liposomes were prepared by thin-lipid hydration and microfluidic flow focusing, and evaluated for their ability to induce proliferation, osteoinduction, and chemoattraction in three cell types: MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblast cells, L929 fibroblast cells, and ATDC5 chondrogenic cells.

The treatment of cancers with immunotherapies has yielded significant milestones in recent years. Amongst these immunotherapeutic strategies, the FDA has approved several checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs), primarily Anti-Programmed Death-1 (PD-1) and Programmed Death Ligand-1/2 (PDL-1/2) monoclonal antibodies, in the treatment of various cancers unresponsive to immune therapeutics. Such treatments resulted in significant clinical responses and the prolongation of survival in a subset of patients.
