Host defense at the mucosal interface requires collaborative interactions between diverse cell lineages. Epithelial cells damaged by microbial invaders release reparative proteins such as the Trefoil factor family (TFF) peptides that functionally restore barrier integrity. However, whether TFF peptides and their receptors also serve instructive roles for immune cell function during infection is incompletely understood. Here, we demonstrate that the intestinal trefoil factor, TFF3, restrains (T cell helper) T1 cell proliferation and promotes host-protective type 2 immunity against the gastrointestinal parasitic nematode Trichuris muris. Accordingly, T cell-specific deletion of the TFF3 receptor, leucine-rich repeat and immunoglobulin containing nogo receptor 2 (LINGO2), impairs T2 cell commitment, allows proliferative expansion of interferon (IFN)g cluster of differentiation (CD)4 T1 cells and blocks normal worm expulsion through an IFNg-dependent mechanism. This study indicates that TFF3, in addition to its known tissue reparative functions, drives anti-helminth immunity by controlling the balance between T1/T2 subsets.

Evaluation of Ocular Parameters in Newly Diagnosed Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Children With Eye-Rubbing Compulsion.

Clin Pediatr (Phila)

December 2024

Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Recep Tayyip Erdogan University, Rize Training and Research Hospital, Merkez/Rize, Turkey.

Purpose: To determine the ocular structural changes in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) children with eye-rubbing compulsion.

Methods: Participants recruited at the child and adolescent psychiatry clinic were evaluated for the OCD diagnosis. All patients underwent imaging with Scheimpflug corneal topography (Sirius, CSO, Italy), Tomey EM-4000 specular microscopy (Nagoya, Japan), and Lenstar LS 900 (Haag-Streit AG, Switzerland) optical biometry.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) is a common disease in middle-aged and elderly men, with lower urinary tract symptoms as the main manifestation, severely affecting the quality of life of patients. The pathogenesis of BPH is not yet fully understood, and there are still some challenges and limitations in western medicine treatment for BPH. Therefore, finding new and more effective treatment strategies is urgent.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is an intraocular tumor arising from retinal cone progenitor cells affecting young children. In the last couple of years, RB treatment evolved towards eye preserving therapies. Therefore, investigating intratumoral differences and the RB tumor microenvironment (TME), regulating tumorigenesis and metastasis, is crucial.

TFF3 drives Hippo dependent EGFR-TKI resistance in lung adenocarcinoma.

Institute of Biopharmaceutical and Health Engineering, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, Shenzhen, 518055, PR China.

Intrinsic and acquired resistance represent major obstacles to optimize outcomes in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) targeted therapy in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Hence, a deeper understanding of EGFR-TKI resistance mechanisms in LUAD will potentially assist in formulating strategies to delay or overcome such resistance. Herein, it was observed that trefoil factor 3 (TFF3) is a crucial mediator of the LUAD EGFR-TKI response.
