Background: Varicocele is an abnormal expansion of the pampininias venous plexus in the scrotum, resulting in impaired sperm production and reduced sperm quality. The exact pathophysiological mechanism leading to varicocele-related infertility has not been fully elucidated. Although treatable, varicocele may lead to male infertility.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between semen parameters, serum InhB and INSL-3 levels, and the degree of varicocele in male patients.

Methods: Serum InhB and INSL-3 were detected. To evaluate the relationship between semen parameters and serum InhB and INSL-3 levels. To evaluate the value of semen parameters and serum InhB and INSL-3 levels in distinguishing disease severity in patients with varicocele.

Results: Serum INSL-3 in patients with varicocele decreased with the severity of the disease. Serum INSL-3 was positively correlated with total sperm count and frequency of normal sperm morphology. There was a weak correlation between serum InhB and semen volume, concentration, and total sperm. Patients with different disease severity were similar within the groups, with partial overlap or similarity between varicocele Grade I and Grade II, and significant differences between Grade III and Grade I and II. Semen volume, concentration, total sperm, normal sperm morphology, and serum InhB and INSL-3 levels could distinguish the degree of varicocele.

Conclusion: Semen parameters and the combination of serum InhB and INSL-3 levels in patients with varicocele are closely related to the severity of the disease. Serum INSL-3 is expected to be a potential biomarker for early clinical intervention.

Introduction: It has been suggested that inhibin B (InhB), Anti-Müllerian hormone (Müllerian-inhibiting substance, AMH) levels, and 2D/4D finger length ratios are related to sex differences in neurodevelopmental disorders. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of InhB, AMH levels, and 2D/4D finger length ratios in male children with specific learning disorder (SLD).

Methods: The study included 38 male children diagnosed with SLD and 38 males of similar ages without SLD as the control group.

Investigational Treatment of Congenital Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism in Infants.

Horm Metab Res

January 2025

Department of Endocrinology, Genetics and Metabolism, Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University, National Center for Children's Health, Beijing, China.

The aim of the study was to investigate whether the administration of gonadotropins to mimic the physiological development of infants with congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) after birth can facilitate testicular descent, penile growth, and ultimately preserve fertility. This study included eight infants with CHH who received a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) pump or human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) combined with human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) therapy at Beijing Children's Hospital from August 2018 to March 2023. The age of the infants ranged from 6 months to 2 years.

The Role of Sertoli Cell Hormones in Male Preponderance Observed in Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Noro Psikiyatr Ars

May 2024

Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical Faculty, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Istanbul, Turkey.

Introduction: There is a significant, but poorly understood, male preponderance in prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between male preponderance in ASD and Inhibin B (InhB) and Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels and the 2D/4D finger ratio associated with fetal androgen exposure.

Methods: 42 patients with ASD and 42 neurotypical controls between the ages of 5 and 10 were included.

Objective: To observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on the autophagy of ovarian granulosa cells in rats with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), and explore the mechanism of EA in improving POI.

Methods: Thirty-two female SD rats were randomly divided into a blank group (=8) and a model making group (=24). The rats in the model making group were injected intraperitoneally with cyclophosphamide for 15 days to establish the POI model (the dosage on the 1st day was 50 mg/kg, and 8 mg/kg from the 2nd day to 15th day).

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates the effectiveness and safety of the Bushen Culuan Formula for treating infertility linked to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) by using metabolomics to analyze the underlying mechanisms.
  • - Ninety-four PCOS patients were divided into treatment and control groups; results showed the treatment group had significantly higher response and pregnancy rates, along with improved hormone levels and ovarian function.
  • - Metabolomics analysis revealed 24 specific metabolites correlated with hormone levels, suggesting that the Bushen Culuan Formula may help regulate sex hormones through changes in lipid and amino acid metabolism.
