Human face categorization has been extensively studied using event-related potentials (ERPs), positing the N170 ERP component as a robust neural marker of face categorization. Recently, the fast periodic visual stimulation (FPVS) approach relying on steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEPs) has also been used to investigate face categorization. FPVS studies consistently report strong bilateral SSVEP face categorization responses over the occipito-temporal cortex, with a right hemispheric dominance, closely mirroring the N170 scalp topography.

There has been concern raised in religion/spirituality (R/S) research about the use of measures of spirituality that are contaminated by indicators of mental and/or social health. Many of these scales are used widely in published studies examining associations with health, and yet many researchers and reviewers are not aware of contamination issues. Monopolar electrocautery is usually a safe and effective technique used in laparoscopic cholecystectomy and bile duct surgery, but it may lead to adverse consequences, even ventricular fibrillation (VF). Amiodarone is an effective antiarrhythmic drug commonly used in practice to treat ventricular and atrial arrhythmias, but it may induce tachyarrhythmia or even VF. We report a case of VF occurring twice during cholecystectomy.

This paper examines a recently developed statistical approach for evaluating the effectiveness of vaccination campaigns in terms of deaths averted. The statistical approach makes predictions by comparing death rates in the vaccinated and unvaccinated populations. The statistical approach is preferred for its simplicity and straightforwardness, especially when compared to the difficulties involved when fitting the many parameters of a dynamic SIRD-type model, which may even be an impossible task.

Background: Given the distinctive physiological characteristics of pregnant women, non-pharmacological therapies are increasingly being used to improve depressive and anxiety symptoms. Our objective was to explore and compare the impact of various non-pharmacological interventions in improving depressive and anxiety symptoms, and to identify the most effective strategies for pregnant women with depressive and/or anxiety symptoms.
Methods: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared non-pharmacological interventions to usual care, from the inception of each database up to October 5, 2024.
