Standardised lung function metrics in healthy athletes.

Scand J Clin Lab Invest

January 2025

Centre for Physical Activity Research, Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark.

The objective of the current review was to identify whether clinically established lung function metrics of ventilatory and diffusion capacity obtained by standardised methodology are consistent with superior lung function in athletes, and whether this is related to maximal oxygen uptake (V̇O). Three independent reviewers performed a literature search in PubMed, Scopus, and reference screening. Data was extracted and analysed according to a predefined strategy.

Transition metal complexes: next-generation photosensitizers for combating Gram-positive bacteria.

Future Med Chem

January 2025

Department of Biophysics, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Health Science Centre, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, P. R., China.

The rise of antibiotic-resistant Gram-positive bacterial infections poses a significant threat to public health, necessitating the exploration of alternative therapeutic strategies. A photosensitizer (PS) can convert energy from absorbed photon into reactive oxygen species (ROS) for damaging bacteria. This photoinactivation action bypassing conventional antibiotic mechanism is less prone to resistance development, making antibacterial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) highly efficient in combating Gram-positive bacteria.

Université de Poitiers, UMR CNRS 7267, Ecologie et Biologie des Interactions, France.

, the causative agent of Legionnaires' disease, interacts in the environment with free-living amoebae that serve as replicative niches for the bacteria. Among these amoebae, is a natural host in water networks and a model commonly used to study the interaction between and its host. However, certain crucial aspects of this interaction remain unclear.

Objective: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the common complications in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). In order to find a method to monitor and treat the refractory DFU, the ferroptosis level in DFU and traumatic wounds (TW) was monitored and the difference between them was analyzed. At the same time, this study further analyzed the correlation of ferroptosis levels with DM severity and DFU's healing.
