Objective: Activation of antiinflammatory cholinergic (vagal) pathways can reduce inflammation, and in vitro studies support a pivotal role of α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7-nAChR), macrophages, and T cells in these events. The aim of this study was to assess α7-nAChR agonists as an antiinflammatory treatment for Freund's complete adjuvant (CFA)-induced monoarthritis.
Methods: Arthritis was induced by intraarticular injection of CFA unilaterally into the knee joints of mice.
Effects of one minute and ten minutes of walking activity in rats with arthritis induced by complete Freund's adjuvant on pain and edema symptoms.

This study evaluated the effects of two protocols of exercise on nociception, edema and cell migration in rats with CFA-induced arthritis. Pharmacologic glucocorticoids are powerful inhibitors of the inflammatory response at many levels, including leucocyte trafficking and function. The adhesion molecule P-selectin is a key participant in polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) migration to sites of inflammation. The extent to which endogenous glucocorticoids influence PMN migration and activation is not clear.
