Purpose: Replaced posterior cerebral artery (PCA), defined as a hyperplastic anterior choroidal artery (AChA) supplying all branches of the PCA, is an extremely rare anatomical variation. To the best of our knowledge, there are only a few reports of replaced PCA.
Methods: Herein, we report a case of replaced PCA diagnosed by digital subtraction angiography.
Results: A 76-year-old woman visited a neurosurgical clinic because of headache and vertigo. Magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance angiography incidentally revealed a left internal carotid artery aneurysm. She was referred to our hospital for further examination and treatment of the unruptured intracranial aneurysm. Left internal carotid angiography revealed a paraclinoid aneurysm. We also incidentally found an anomalous hyperplastic AChA distal to the aneurysm. This hyperplastic AChA supplied not only the AChA territory but also the entire PCA territory. No vessels that could be a normal AChA or posterior communicating artery were identified along the left internal carotid artery. Vertebral angiography demonstrated that the left PCA was not visualized. With these findings, we diagnosed anomalous hyperplastic AChoA in this case as replaced PCA.
Conclusion: Careful imaging assessment is important to identify replaced PCA. Both direct findings of a hyperplastic AChA course and perfusion territory and indirect findings of the absence of the original PCA are useful in the diagnosis of replaced PCA.

Purpose: In functionally aligned (FA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA), femoral component rotation (FCR) is personalised to optimise flexion gap balance. As axial malalignment has been attributed to patellofemoral complications, this study assessed FA FCR in relation to the surgical transepicondylar axis (TEA) and early implant survivorship.
Methods: We analysed 446 robotic-assisted primary TKAs in 393 patients using FA with preresection gap balancing.

Cocoa is a high value product and therefore a potential target for economic adulteration with less expensive ingredients. Carob flour is less expensive than cocoa powder and is frequently cited as a potential cocoa substitute. While carob has legitimate uses as a cocoa replacement, these characteristics also make it a potential adulterant of cocoa powder.

Research Background: Anthocyanin pigments in mangosteen pericarp can serve as natural colourants; however, their stability is compromised by enzymatic browning caused by polyphenol oxidase (PPO). Thus, this study aims to investigate how hot water and steam blanching affect the PPO activity, phenolic profile and antioxidant properties of mangosteen pericarp.
Experimental Approach: Fresh mangosteen pericarp was blanched in hot water or steam at 100 °C for 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 s and the residual PPO activity, total phenolic content (TPC), total anthocyanins, antioxidant activity, browning index and colour properties were evaluated.

In nature conservation, ex situ and in situ conservation strategies are discussed for protecting endangered species of plants and animals. However, the impacts of these strategies on the microbes associated with these species are rarely considered. In our study, we chose the endophytic fungi of the pantropical creeping plant Ipomoea pes-caprae as representative coastal plant in two natural coastal populations and two botanical gardens in Taiwan as collection sites in order to investigate the potential effect of ex situ plantation on the biodiversity of microbes intimately associated with this plant.

The replacement of dairy has recently been one of the market efforts to fulfill such demand. Yet, challenges arise when consumers are reluctant to accept plant-based milk (PBM) due to the mismatch of organoleptic profile between PBM and the actual dairy.
