Despite increasing acknowledgment of racism in both the curricular and clinical spaces, it continues to pervade the medical field, with clear detrimental impacts to the health of our patients. The introduction of anti-racism bystander training (ARBT) may provide a unique opportunity to reduce inequitable care and health disparities that occur secondary to racism in healthcare. ARBT, in its various forms, has been shown to be an effective method to increase participants' confidence and efficacy in intervening on observed racist encounters. This training can take numerous forms, and the authors provide one successful template used with medical students at their own institution. If medical centers, educators, and leaders in the field of medicine truly hope to mitigate the individual racist behaviors that remain in healthcare, ARBT must be employed to a much wider degree in medical education.

Combating the recent surge of anti-Asian racism requires a collective effort that includes the willingness of nontarget bystanders to intervene, but little is known about the circumstances under which they are willing to do so. The present qualitative study explores why non-Asian bystanders decide to intervene when they witness anti-Asian racism, and why, under other circumstances, they choose not to. Twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted with non-Asian college students who witnessed anti-Asian discrimination.

Despite Americans' recent heightened awareness of racial inequality, anti-Asian racism at work remains underrecognized and largely unaddressed. In this research, we aim to understand why White bystander coworkers may fail to confront anti-Asian racism. Integrating the moral exclusion perspective and research on racial positions, we propose that due to perceiving Asian Americans as more foreign than other non-White coworkers, White coworkers are less likely to feel anger and engage in confrontation when witnessing anti-Asian racism at work.

A bystander to racial violence is conventionally thought of as someone who witnesses an overt act of racial oppression at the interpersonal level, such as police brutality. However, racial violence in health research, pedagogy, and practice often shows up more covertly, like through epistemic injustice, deficits-based framing, and racial essentialism. We aim to expand how we think about bystanders and perpetrators of racial violence within health institutions, and how antiracism bystander behavioral approaches can be deployed to intervene against such violence.

Racism increases pain sensitization and contributes to racialized pain inequities; however, research has not tested interventions targeting racism to reduce pain. In this study, we examined whether White bystanders can act to mitigate racism's pain-sensitizing effects.
