AI Article Synopsis

  • The Latin Questionnaire is a new tool designed to study work-related musculoskeletal disorders using structured questions and a severity threshold, which helps in conducting epidemiological comparisons between affected and control populations.
  • The study aims to improve the assessment of symptoms like discomfort and pain by detailing their characteristics and distinguishing between different anamnestic cases.
  • Results show that the questionnaire effectively reveals significant differences in disorder prevalence among workers exposed to risks compared to a reference group, and it is available for free in a digital format for easy access and analysis.

Article Abstract

Introduction: The authors proposed an application study of the Latin Questionnaire, an updated protocol to conduct the anamnestic study of work-related musculoskeletal disorders through closed questions and the introduction of a predetermined severity threshold that allows for epidemiological studies to be conducted, comparing the results of the exposed population with those of a reference population. Background: Similar protocols describing work-related musculoskeletal disorders occurring in the previous 12 months are available in the literature. For many of these, problems arise when the results must be processed collectively.

Objectives: Here we present application examples, with comments on the results in terms of statistical significance of the comparison.

Methods: The anamnestic study of the Latin Questionnaire is based on symptoms: discomfort, pain, and evaluation of paresthesia. Each symptom is described considering: location, duration, number of episodes, irradiation, and treatment. The model, which covers the previous 12 months, is designed to identify in the spine, upper and lower limbs: positive anamnestic case, case with minor disorders, negative case.

Results: The original application examples show the scope of the disorders presented in the groups of workers exposed to known risk, in comparison with those of the reference group: the significance of the differences is estimated statistically.

Conclusions: The Latin Questionnaire, also implemented in the digital format (free to download), allows for comparing the data of exposed and unexposed workers and their statistical significance easily and automatically.

Objective: Machine learning has a great potential for prospectively forecasting individual patient response to mental health care (MHC), thereby enabling treatment personalization. However, previous efforts have been limited to populations living in predominantly higher income, developed countries. This study aimed to extend the reach of precision MHC systems by developing and testing a feasible and readily implementable algorithm for identifying patients at risk of nonresponse to routinely delivered psychotherapy in Chile, a developing country in Latin America.

Study Objectives: To examine 1) multidimensional sleep profiles in pre-schoolers (3-6 years) across geocultural regions and 2) differences in sleep characteristics and family practices between Majority World regions (Pacific Islands, Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America) and the Minority World (the Western world).

Methods: Participants were 3507 pre-schoolers from 37 countries. Nighttime sleep characteristics and nap duration (accelerometer: n=1950) and family practices (parental questionnaire) were measured.

Background: Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of Trypanosoma cruzi and hepatitis B virus (HBV) increases morbidity and disability in Latin America and the Caribbean. The tailormade comprehensive antenatal care based on the Framework for the elimination of MTCT of HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B virus (HBV), and Chagas disease (EMTCT Plus) has been implemented in the region since 2018 through a private-public partnership. This study aimed to estimate the effectiveness of the intervention in preparing MTCT of T.
