Women have the highest prevalence of epigastric hernia repair. Outcomes after epigastric hernia repair are rarely reported independently, although pathology and surgical techniques may be different than for other primary ventral hernias. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term outcomes after epigastric hernia repairs in women on a nationwide basis. Nationwide cohort study from the Danish Hernia Database. Complete data from women undergoing elective epigastric hernia repair during a 12 years period (2007-2018) was extracted. A 100% follow-up was obtained by combining data from the National Civil Register. The primary outcome was operation for recurrence, secondary outcomes were readmission and operation for complications. Outcomes for open sutured repair, open mesh repair mesh, and laparoscopic repairs were compared. In total, 3,031 women underwent elective epigastric hernia repair during the study period. Some 1,671 (55.1%) women underwent open sutured repair, 796 (26.3%) underwent open mesh repair, and 564 (18.6%) underwent laparoscopic repair. Follow-up was median 4.8 years. Operation for recurrence was higher after sutured repairs than after open mesh and laparoscopic repairs (7.7% vs. 3.3%, vs. 6.2%, < 0.001). The risk of operation for complications was slightly higher after open mesh repair compared with sutured repair and laparoscopic repair (2.6% vs. 1.2%, vs. 2.0%, = 0.032), with more operations for wound complications in the open mesh group (2.0%, = 0.006). More than half of the women underwent a suture-based repair, although mesh repair reduces risk of recurrence. Open mesh repair had the lowest risk of recurrence, but on the expense of slightly increased risk of wound-related complications.

Open abdomen treatment (OAT) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. In cases where primary or delayed fascial closure cannot be achieved, vacuum-assisted wound closure and mesh-mediated fascial traction are indicated, which often result in a planned ventral hernia. If secondary skin closure is not feasible, common treatment of granulated abdominal defects involves split-thickness skin-grafting or healing by secondary intention leading to significant scarring and sometimes mutilating defects.

Introduction: The last decade has witnessed several modifications in the laparoscopic techniques for ventral hernia. The aim of this study was to compare an established repair such as laparoscopic intraperitoneal onlay mesh repair with defect closure (IPOM plus) with subcutaneous onlay endoscopic approach (SCOLA) for medium ventral hernia.
Patients And Methods: From June 2019 to November 2021, 29 patients undergoing IPOM plus and 22 patients undergoing SCOLA for medium ventral hernia (umbilical and epigastric hernia of size 2-4 cm) were included in the study.

Background: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways have been widely implemented across many surgical practices, including autologous breast reconstruction. However, the benefits of ERAS in the morbidly obese population have yet to be defined.
Methods: A retrospective chart review of patients undergoing deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction at our institution from 2017 to 2022 was performed.

To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of the lateral single-incision laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (L-SILTEP) approach in patients with inguinal hernia who had contraindications to the midline approach. This study included 58 patients who underwent L-SILTEP. Data on their baseline characteristics and perioperative details were collected.

Background: PRODUODOPA is a combination of foscarbidopa and foslevodopa indicated for the treatment of motor fluctuations in patients with advanced Parkinson's disease when available combinations of peroral drugs have not given satisfactory results. The solution is administered via subcutaneous infusion, most frequently in the abdomen, using an infusion pump. The study results showed a significant effect on the reductions in off time and higher control of motor symptoms without troublesome dyskinesia.
