Tropomyosin is an actin-binding protein that plays roles ranging from regulating muscle contraction to controlling cytokinesis and cell migration. The simple nematode provides a useful model for studying the core functions of tropomyosin in an animal, having a relatively simple anatomy, and a single tropomyosin gene, , that produces seven isoforms. Three higher molecular weight isoforms (LEV-11A, D, O) regulate contraction of body wall and other muscles, but comparatively less is known of the functions of four lower molecular weight isoforms (LEV-11C, E, T, U).

The hypothesis that high-altitude mosquitoes spread pathogens over large distances has not been directly tested. Here, we report for the first time that high-altitude windborne mosquitoes are commonly infected with arboviruses, protozoans, and helminths affecting vertebrates and humans, and provide the first description of this pathogen-vector aerial network.

Background: Fascioliasis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica, which poses a serious threat to global public health and livestock farming. Fasciola gigantica secretes and excretes various components to manipulate the immune response, thereby enhancing its invasion, migration, and survival in vivo. However, the roles of specific components in immune modulation, such as asparagine endopeptidase, remain unknown.

Of these, mutants, defective in the and genes, responsible for neurotransmitter and neuropeptide release, respectively, are routinely used to elucidate neural and circuitry functions. A 2-year-old intact male Airedale Terrier was presented with a sudden onset of neurological signs, manifesting as hemiparesis, which were neuroanatomically localized to the brain. Initial bloodwork conducted by the local veterinarian indicated decreased levels of von Willebrand factor, and further examination showed an extended buccal mucosal bleeding time. MRI revealed a substantial hemorrhage within the right parietal lobe, while CT exhibited a mixed pulmonary pattern with unstructured interstitial, peribronchial, and alveolar components, presumably associated with larval migration and pulmonary microhemorrhages.
