Background: The efficacy of chemotherapy continues to be limited due to associated toxicity and chemoresistance. Thus, synthesizing and investigating novel agents for cancer treatment that could potentially eliminate such limitations is imperative.

Objective: The current study aims to explore the anticancer potency of cryptolepine (CPE) analog on Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells (EACs) in mice.

Methods: The effect of a CPE analog on EAC cell viability and ascites volume, as well as malonaldehyde, total antioxidant capacity, and catalase, were estimated. The concentration of caspase-8 and mTOR in EACs was also measured, and the expression levels of PTEN and Akt were determined.

Results: Results revealed that CPE analog exerts a cytotoxic effect on EAC cell viability and reduces the ascites volume. Moreover, this analog induces oxidative stress in EACs by increasing the level of malonaldehyde and decreasing the level of total antioxidant capacity and catalase activity. It also induces apoptosis by elevating the concentration of caspase-8 in EACs. Furthermore, it decreases the concentration of mTOR in EACs. Moreover, it upregulates the expression of PTEN and downregulates the expression of Akt in EACs.

Conclusion: Our findings showed the anticancer activity of CPE analog against EACs in mice mediated by regulation of the PTEN/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.

Despite being promoted as a superior Li-ion conductor, lithium lanthanum zirconium oxide (LLZO) still suffers from a number of shortcomings when employed as an active ceramic filler in composite polymer-ceramic solid electrolytes for rechargeable all-solid-state lithium metal batteries. One of the main limitations is the detrimental presence of LiCO on the surface of LLZO particles, restricting Li-ion transport at the polymer-ceramic interfaces. In this work, a facile way to improve this interface is presented, by purposely engineering the LLZO particle surfaces for a better compatibility with a PEO:LiTFSI solid polymer electrolyte matrix.

Analog radio-over-fiber (A-RoF) solutions for mobile fronthaul are regaining wide attention due to their high spectral efficiency and low complexity. However, the performance of A-RoF is usually limited by the fiber link fidelity. In this Letter, we propose and experimentally demonstrate an optical continuous pulse position modulation-based analog radio-over-fiber (OCPPM-RoF) scheme, in which the amplitudes of wireless waveforms are mapped to the time-domain positions of optical pulses to decouple the additive noise.

Bound states in the continuum have recently been utilized in photonic crystal gratings to achieve strong coupling and ultralow threshold condensation of exciton-polariton quasiparticles with atypical Dirac-like features in their dispersion relation. Here, we develop the single- and many-body theory of these new effective relativistic polaritonic modes and describe their mean-field condensation dynamics facilitated by the interplay between protection from the radiative continuum and negative-mass optical trapping. Our theory accounts for tunable grating parameters giving full control over the diffractive coupling properties between guided polaritons and the radiative continuum, unexplored for polariton condensates.
