Self-Learning Videos in Focused Transthoracic Echocardiography Training.

Clin Teach

February 2025

Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine, Toronto General Hospital, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Background: Focused transthoracic echocardiography (FOTE) is crucial for patients' bedside management. However, limited opportunities exist for practical FOTE training, prompting the use of simulation and self-learning videos to overcome this constraint. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of incorporating self-learning videos into a simulation FOTE training course.

Chemobrain can be defined as the development of cognitive side effects following chemotherapy, which is increasingly reported in cancer survivor patients. Chemobrain leads to reduced patients' quality of life by causing different symptoms ranging from strokes and seizures to memory loss and mood disorders. Metformin, an antidiabetic drug, has been proposed as a potential treatment to improve the symptoms of chemotherapy-induced cognitive dysfunction.

Arterial and venous thromboembolism are leading causes of morbidity and death worldwide. Despite significant advances in the diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment of thrombotic diseases over the past 3 decades, the adoption of findings stemming from translational biomarker research in clinical practice remains limited. Biomarkers provide an opportunity to enhance our understanding of pathophysiological processes and optimize treatment strategies.

Disease burden is a critical determinant of outcomes in CAR-T therapy for B-cell lymphomas, and one of the most widely used techniques for its assessment is Total Metabolic Tumor Volume (TMTV) measured via [F]FDG PET/CT. Biological parameters may further refine the risk profile. We analyzed baseline [F]FDG PET/CT scans from 40 patients treated with CAR-T, using an AI-based automated segmentation algorithm to determine TMTV.
