Superhydrophobic surfaces face challenges in comprehensive durability when used in extreme outdoor environments. Here, we present a protocol for preparing nanocomposite bulks with hierarchical structures using the template technique. We describe steps for using hybrid nanoparticles of polytetrafluoroethylene and multi-walled carbon nanotube to fill inside and dip on the polyurethane (PU) foam. We then detail procedures for its removal by sintering treatment. The extra accretion layer on the PU foam surface was highlighted to construct hierarchical porous structures. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Wu et al..

Architecting hierarchical structures in monolithic covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is vital for the applications of COFs in mass transport fields. The MXene-coated bilayer aerogels containing β-keto-enamine COF (MX-TpX-COF) with different chain lengths of aromatic linkers are constructed for the study. The directional freezing method endowed the COF part and MXene coating with aligned channels, and the small pores mainly exist in the former, while the larger ones in the latter.

Emergent Research Trends on the Structural Relaxation Dynamics of Molecular Clusters: From Structure-Property Relationship to New Function Prediction.

Acc Chem Res

October 2024

State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices & South China Advanced Institute for Soft Matter Science and Technology, Guangdong Basic Research Center of Excellence for Energy and Information Polymer Materials, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, P. R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • - Molecular clusters (MCs) are precisely organized collections of atoms that can be customized for specific purposes and used to create advanced materials with layered structures and enhanced functions.
  • - Unlike traditional polymers, MCs exhibit unique viscoelastic properties, maintaining elasticity even at higher temperatures, and offer new avenues for designing soft materials without the linked chain designs found in polymers.
  • - Research into the structural relaxation dynamics of MCs, aided by improved measurement techniques, allows scientists to understand and quantify the movement of different structural units, paving the way for innovative material development and overcoming challenges faced by conventional materials.

Background: Brain tumours are known to have a high mortality and morbidity rate due to their localised and frequent invasive growth. The concept that glioma resistance could originate from the dissimilarity in the vulnerability of clonogenic glial stem cells to chemotherapeutic drugs and radiation has driven the scientific community to reexamine the comprehension of glioma growth and strategies that target these cells or modify their stemness.

Methods: Based on the enrichment scores of 12 stemness signatures, we identified glioma subtypes in both tumour bulks and single cells by clustering analysis.

Ligand Engineering in Tin-Based Perovskite Solar Cells.

Nanomicro Lett

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted aggressive attention in the photovoltaic field in light of the rapid increasing power conversion efficiency. However, their large-scale application and commercialization are limited by the toxicity issue of lead (Pb). Among all the lead-free perovskites, tin (Sn)-based perovskites have shown potential due to their low toxicity, ideal bandgap structure, high carrier mobility, and long hot carrier lifetime.
