NHCs (-heterocyclic carbenes) are generally used as organic ligands that can coordinate with metal ions like silver to form stable complexes. These complexes have shown enhanced antimicrobial properties compared to silver alone. This document provides an overview of the reported NHC-based silver derivatives (acetates, chlorides, bromides, and iodides) who possess antimicrobial activity. This review covers articles published between the first report (2006) and 2023.

Surface modification through the formation of a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) can effectively engineer the physicochemical properties of the surface/material. However, the precise design of multifunctional SAMs at the molecular level is still a major challenge. Here, we jointly use N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and thiols to form multifunctional hetero-SAM systems that demonstrate excellent chemical stability, electrical conductivity, and, in silico, catalytic activity.

-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have emerged as promising ligands for stabilizing metallic complexes, nanoclusters, nanoparticles (NPs) and surfaces. The carbon-metal bond between NHCs and metal atoms plays a crucial role in determining the resulting material's stability, reactivity, function, and electronic properties. Using Raman spectroscopy coupled with density functional theory calculations, we investigate the nature of carbon-metal bonding in NHC-silver and NHC-gold complexes as well as their corresponding NPs.

A comprehensive study on the synthesis and characterization of NHC-ligated nickel(II) cyanoborates (CBs) is presented (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene). Nickel(II) cyanoborates Ni[BH(CN)]·HO (Ib·HO), Ni[BH(CN)]·0.5HO (Ic·0.
