Article Abstract

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and its complications are a high-incidence disease worldwide. Numerous studies have shown that blood flow shear has a huge impact on the function of vascular endothelial cells, and it plays an important role in gene regulation of pro-inflammatory, pro-thrombotic, pro-oxidative stress, and cell permeability. Many important endothelial cell mechanosensitive genes have been discovered, including , gene family, , , , , , , , , , , and . Some of them have been intensively studied, whereas the relevant regulatory mechanism of other genes remains unclear. Focusing on these mechanosensitive genes will provide new strategies for therapeutic intervention in atherosclerotic vascular disease. Thus, this article reviews the mechanosensitive genes affecting vascular endothelial cells, including classical pathways and some newly screened genes, and summarizes the latest research progress on their roles in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis to reveal effective therapeutic targets of drugs and provide new insights for anti-atherosclerosis.

An actin-binding protein, known as Calponin 3 (CNN3), modulates the remodeling of the actin cytoskeleton, a fundamental process for the maintenance of skeletal muscle homeostasis. Although the roles of CNN3 in actin remodeling have been established, its biological significance in myoblast differentiation remains largely unknown. This study investigated the functional significance of CNN3 in myogenic differentiation, along with its effects on actin remodeling and mechanosensitive signaling in C2C12 myoblasts.

Karst caves are a unique environment significantly different from the external environment; adaptation of cave-dwelling animals to the cave environment is often accompanied by shifts in the sensory systems. Aquatic and terrestrial leeches have been found in the karst caves. In this study, we conducted a transcriptome analysis on the cave-dwelling leech .

Parasitic plants pose a substantial threat to agriculture as they attack economically important crops. The stem parasitic plant Cuscuta campestris invades the host's stem with a specialized organ referred to as the haustorium, which absorbs nutrients and water from the host. Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) depends on periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs), which sense biomechanical stimuli and initiate alveolar bone remodeling. Light (optimal) forces accelerate OTM, whereas heavy forces decelerate it. However, the mechanisms by which PDLCs sense biomechanical stimuli and affect osteoclastic activities under different mechanical forces (MFs) remain unclear.

Animals have evolved numerous mechanisms to perceive and interact with the environment that can be translated into different sensory modalities. However, the genomic and phenotypic features that support sensory functions remain enigmatic for many invertebrates, such as bivalves, an ecologically and economically important taxonomic group. No repertoire of sensory genes has been characterized in bivalves, representing a significant knowledge gap in molluscan sensory biology.
