A systematic investigation was conducted in the present study to determine how various cations and anions affected the solubility of CO. To investigate the influence of different cations and anions on the solubility of CO, twelve ILs were synthesized, characterized, and utilized. These ILs comprised five distinct anions (dioctylsulfosuccinate [DOSS], triflouromethanesulfonate [TFMS], dodecylsulfate [DDS], 3-sulfobezoate [SBA], and benzene sulfonate [BS]), and four distinct cations (1-butyl-3-propanenitrile imidazolium [CCN Bim], 1-hexyl-3-propanenitrile imidazolium [CCN Him], 1-octyl-3-propanenitrile imidazolium [CCN Oim], and 1-decyl-3-propanenitrile imidazolium [CCN Dim]). The synthesized ILs were characterized using NMR and elemental analysis. Their moisture and halide contents were determined. The gravimetric method (MSB) was employed to determine the solubility of CO at various pressures (20, 15, 10, 5, and 1 bar). In addition, the effects of temperature on the solubility of CO were investigated. The constant of Henry's law () was also calculated, along with thermodynamic properties including standard enthalpy (H), entropy (S), and Gibbs free energy (G).

This systematic study delves into the synthesis and characterization of robust bi-functional aminopropyl-tagged periodic mesoporous organosilica with a high loading of small imidazolium bridges in its framework (PrNH@R-PMO-IL, ∼2 mmol g of IL). The materials proved to be a reliable and enduring support for the immobilization of Ru species, demonstrating strong performance and excellent selectivity in the -bromination of various derivatives of 2-phenylpyridine compounds and other heterocycles, showcasing its effectiveness and robust nature. The synthesized materials were thoroughly characterized to determine their structural properties, such as pore size distribution, loading of organic groups, and surface area, using various analytical techniques.

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) with mechanical strength and reduced flammability may also enable next-generation Li batteries with higher energy densities. However, conventional SPEs have fundamental limitations in terms of Li conductivity. While an imidazole functionalized polymer (PMS-Im) has been previously shown to have ionic conductivity related to the imidazole-Li coordination, herein we demonstrate that quaternization of this polymer to form an analogous imidazolium functionalized polymer (PMS-Im) more efficiently solvates lithium salts and plasticizes the polymer.

Porous organic polymers have shown great potential in photocatalytic CO2 reduction due to their unique tunable structure favoring gas adsorption and metal sites integration. However, efficient photocatalysis in porous polymers is greatly limited by the low surface reactivity and electron mobility of bulk structure. Herein, we incorporate TiO2 nanoparticles and Ni(II) sites into a layered cationic imidazolium polymer (IP), in which the imidazolium moieties and free anions can stabilize the key intermediates and enhance the reaction kinetics of CO2 reduction.

Facile and Regioselective Deuteration of C2-Alkylated Imidazolium Salts in the Presence of Cesium Carbonate.

Chemistry

December 2024

Université de Liège: Universite de Liege, Laboratory of Organometallic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis, Institut de chimie B6a, Sart-Tilman, 4000, Liege, BELGIUM.

Thirteen imidazolium iodides bearing benzyl, mesityl, or 2,6-diiso-propyl-phenyl substituents on their nitrogen atoms, and C1 to C4 alkyl chains on their C2 carbon atom were readily deuterated with D2O as a cheap and non-toxic deuterium source in the presence of Cs2CO3, a weak, innocuous, inorganic base. The isotopic exchange proceeded quickly and efficiently under mild, aerobic conditions to afford a range of aNHC and NHO precursors regioselectively labeled on their C2α exocyclic position and/or C4=C5 heterocyclic backbone. A "carbene-free" mechanism was postulated, in which the carbonate anion acts as a catalyst to activate an exocyclic, acidic C-H bond and ease a deuterium transfer from D2O to the imidazolium salt in a concerted fashion.

Polymerizable ionic liquid-based gel polymer electrolytes (PIL-GPEs) were developed for the first time using high-energy electron beam irradiation for high-performance lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). By incorporating an imidazolium-based ionic liquid (PIL) into the polymer network, PIL-GPEs achieved high ionic conductivity (1.90 mS cm at 25 °C), a lithium transference number of 0.
