Malnutrition in geriatric cancer patients is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. A nutrition risk assessment should be done early to identify and treat those at risk for cancer-related malnutrition. The goal of this study was to assess nutritional status in geriatric patients diagnosed with all cause cancer. We conducted a single institutional prospective cohort study of geriatric patients with cancer from 2013-2018. Patients 65 years old and above had undergone a comprehensive geriatric assessment before starting treatment (day 0), post-treatment (day 30), and post-post treatment (day 90). Body Mass Index (BMI) and the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) were used to assess nutrition status. Results showed an increase in nutrition status from pretreatment (day = 0) to treatment (day =30), followed by a decrease in MNA scores at day 90. Results showed a decrease in BMI across all time points. This study supports that cancer and anti-cancer therapy in geriatric patients cause malnutrition, indicating the importance of early nutritional evaluation and intervention.

Diagnosis of Parkinson's disease by eliciting trait-specific eye movements in multi-visual tasks.

J Transl Med

School of Information and Communication Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, No. 2 Linggong Road, 116024, Dalian, China.

Background: Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, and eye movement abnormalities are a significant symptom of its diagnosis. In this paper, we developed a multi-task driven by eye movement in a virtual reality (VR) environment to elicit PD-specific eye movement abnormalities. The abnormal features were subsequently modeled by using the proposed deep learning algorithm to achieve an auxiliary diagnosis of PD.

Background: The worldwide population is ageing and self-arm can be prevented with many techniques. Among them coercive measure consisting of physical restraint (PR) is one of the techniques. This study aims to assess the effects of the biological sex on the long-term survival after PR in geriatric patients during the initial emergency department (ED) visit.

Risk prediction models for falls in hospitalized older patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BMC Geriatr

January 2025

Department of Nursing, the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of School of Medicine, and International School of Medicine, International Institutes of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Yiwu, 322000, China.

Background: Existing fall risk assessment tools in clinical settings often lack accuracy. Although an increasing number of fall risk prediction models have been developed for hospitalized older patients in recent years, it remains unclear how useful these models are for clinical practice and future research.

Objectives: To systematically review published studies of fall risk prediction models for hospitalized older adults.

Department of Nuclear Medicine (PET Center), Key Laboratory of Biological Nanotechnology of National Health Commission, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, 87 Xiangya Road, Changsha, Hunan, 410000, China.

Purpose: The accurate assessment of inflammatory activity of the extraocular muscles (EOMs) in thyroid associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is crucial for formulating subsequent treatment strategies and prognostic judgments. This study aims to explore the efficacy of using [Ga]DOTATATE PET/CT to assess the inflammatory activity of EOMs in TAO patients.

Procedures: This study enrolled 22 TAO patients and 6 healthy volunteers, all of whom underwent orbital [Ga]DOTATATE PET/CT.
