The food chain of the Valdezogues River system is at considerable risk due to the presence of mercury in the environment and to intense bioaccumulation and biomagnification processes in some fish species, particularly in piscivorous. Moreover, the presence of mercury in fish is a reliable indicator of the presence of its most toxic form, methylmercury. Of interest is that selenium, when present together with mercury in food, represents a significant decrease in the risks related to the ingestion of methylmercury.

Long-lasting afterglow luminescence imaging that detects photons slowly being released from chemical defects has emerged, eliminating the need for real-time photoexcitation and enabling autofluorescence-free imaging with high signal-to-background ratios (SBRs). Organic afterglow nano-systems are notable for their tunability and design versatility. However, challenges such as unsatisfactory afterglow intensity, short emission wavelengths, limited activatable strategies, and shallow tissue penetration depth hinder their widespread biomedical applications and clinical translation.

Real-time monitoring of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) in skeletal muscle provides crucial insights into the cause-and-effect relationships between physical activity and health benefits. However, the dynamic production of exercise-induced RONS remains poorly explored, due to the lack of sensing tools that can conform to soft skeletal muscle while monitor RONS release during exercise. Here we introduce dual flexible sensors via twisting carbon nanotubes into helical bundles of fibers and subsequent assembling electrochemical sensing components.
