Understanding Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) spatial distribution in natural environments is crucial due to their environmental persistence and potential bioaccumulation. However, limited research has investigated PFASs spatial distribution at a high resolution, especially in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Here, we examined the composition and concentration of PFASs in 36 bulk surface sediments and grain-size fractionated sediments from 9 representative sites to determine the spatial distribution characteristics in Shenzhen Bay. We found that ΣPFASs decreased gradually from nearshore area to offshore area (0.680 and 0.297 ng g dw, respectively). Furthermore, PFASs are easily adsorbed on fine-grained sediments, likely due to their chain length and hydrophobicity. We argue that the lateral movement of sediments may transport fine-grained sediments associated with ΣPFASs out of the bay, resulting in the spatial difference in ΣPFASs in Shenzhen Bay. Our findings provide important insights into explore the mechanisms associated with preservation and transport of PFASs.

Opportunistic screening is essential to improve the identification of individuals with osteoporosis. Our group has utilized image texture features to assess bone quality using clinical MRIs. We have previously demonstrated that greater heterogeneity of MRI texture related to history of fragility fractures, lower bone density, and worse microarchitecture.

Background: The risk of mosquito-borne disease transmission is increasing in temperate climates with the colonization and proliferation of the Asian tiger mosquito vector Aedes albopictus and the rapid mass transport of passengers returning from tropical regions where viruses are endemic. The prevention of major Aedes-borne viruses heavily relies on the use of insecticides for vector control, mainly pyrethroids. In Europe, only deltamethrin is authorized.

This study aims to explore the spatial distribution and site selection characteristics of cultural heritage sites, as well as the impact of the natural environment on the site's location. A total of 448 cultural heritage sites in Jinan City (Shandong province), which have been listed as key cultural relic protection units from before the Qin Dynasty to after the Qing Dynasty (ca. 7500 BCE-present), were analyzed using spatial analysis tools in ArcGIS 10.

Heavy metal contamination of drinking water, primarily driven by industrial activities, represents a critical challenge, with implications for human health and environmental safety. Gujranwala is an industrial and thickly populated city. The current study aimed to assess and compare heavy metal contamination levels in drinking water from five industrial areas and evaluate their potential impacts on human health.
