Multinuclear Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy of quadrupolar nuclei at ultrahigh magnetic field provides compelling insight into the short-range structure in a family of fast oxide ion electrolytes with LaSrGaO melilite structure. The striking resolution enhancement in the solid-state Ga NMR spectra measured with the world's unique series connected hybrid magnet operating at 35.2 T distinctly resolves Ga sites in four- and five-fold coordination environments. Detection of five-coordinate Ga centers in the site-disordered LaSrGaO melilite is critical given that the GaO unit accommodates interstitial oxide ions and provides excellent transport properties. This work highlights the importance of ultrahigh magnetic fields for the detection of otherwise broad spectral features in systems containing quadrupolar nuclei and the potential of ensemble-based computational approaches for the interpretation of NMR data acquired for site-disordered materials.

Morphological characterization of retinal development from birth to adulthood via retinal thickness assessment in mice: a systematic review.

Exp Eye Res

January 2025

Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Montréal, Montréal, Canada; Research Center, CHU Sainte-Justine University Hospital Centre, Montréal, Canada; Department of Radiology, Radio-oncology and Nuclear Medicine, University of Montréal, Montréal, Canada. Electronic address:

The morphology and thickness of the retinal layers are valuable biomarkers for retinal health and development. The retinal layers in mice are similar to those in humans; thus, a mouse is appropriate for studying the retina. The objectives of this systematic review were: (1) to describe normal retinal morphology quantitatively using retinal layer thickness measured from birth to age 6 months in healthy mice; and (2) to describe morphological changes in physiological retinal development over time using the longitudinal (in vivo) and cross-sectional (ex vivo) data from the included studies.

Electronic address:

Six previously undescribed spiromeroterpenoids, chermesins I-N (1-6), were isolated and identified from the marine-sourced fungus Penicillium chermesinum AS-400. Their structures were determined by nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectroscopic data, and the relative and absolute configurations were confirmed based on nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopic experiments, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations and X-ray crystallographic analysis, and by comparisons of ECD Cotton effects with those of known congeners as well. Structurally, compound 1 represents the first example of spiromeroterpenoid demethylated at C-4.

In this study, a green synthesis method for synthesizing a novel nanocomposite (CuO/g-C₃N₄/Fe₃O₄) utilizing renewable dragon fruit peels as the primary raw material was developed. Hydrothermal and thermal decomposition techniques were used for nanocomposite synthesis. This nanocomposite was subsequently employed for the separation and preconcentration of Cd(II) from various environments, including food and water samples.

Challenges of Investigating Compartmentalized Brain Energy Metabolism Using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in vivo.

Neurochem Res

January 2025

Department of Experimental Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, Lund, Sweden.

Brain function requires continuous energy supply. Thus, unraveling brain metabolic regulation is critical not only for our basic understanding of overall brain function, but also for the cellular basis of functional neuroimaging techniques. While it is known that brain energy metabolism is exquisitely compartmentalized between astrocytes and neurons, the metabolic and neuro-energetic basis of brain activity is far from fully understood.
