Every day thousands of news are published on the web and filtering tools can be used to extract knowledge on specific topics. The categorization of news into a predefined set of topics is a subject widely studied in the literature, however, most works are restricted to documents in English. In this work, we make two contributions. First, we introduce a Portuguese news dataset collected from WikiNews an open-source media that provide news from different sources. Since there is a lack of datasets for Portuguese, and an existing one is from a single news channel, we aim to introduce a dataset from different news channels. The availability of comprehensive datasets plays a key role in advancing research. Second, we compare different architectures for Portuguese news classification, exploring different text representations (BoW, TF-IDF, Embedding) and classification techniques (SVM, CNN, DJINN, BERT) for documents in Portuguese, covering classical methods and current technologies. We show the trade-off between accuracy and training time for this application. We aim to show the capabilities of available algorithms and the challenges faced in the area.

Envenomation by aquatic species is an under-investigated source of human morbidity and mortality. Increasing population density along marine and freshwater coastlines increases these incidents. Specific occupational groups - including commercial fishery workers, fisherfolk, marine tourism workers, and researchers - rely on aquatic resources for their livelihood.

The article draws a parallel between two pathological phenomena with great social impact in different settings: the smallpox epidemic in Ceará, northeastern Brazil, between 1900 and 1905, and the covid-19 pandemic in Brazil between 2020 and 2022. Despite the historical and temporal distance between these two episodes, there are some significant similarities in the ways they were conducted politically, especially with regard to the use of fake news and misinformation on the emergency of implementing mass vaccination. The analysis makes extensive use of press reports concerning the covid-19 pandemic and writings by the pharmacist Rodolfo Teófilo, a key figure in the smallpox vaccination campaign in Ceará.

Objective: This scoping review aims to map the strategies used during the communication of bad news to families of unexpected and sudden death victims from the perspective of those receiving the news.
Introduction: The strategies used in communicating a person's death to their family, especially in unexpected and sudden situations, can have a profound impact on the grief management process. This communication is often carried out by a health professional (doctor, nurse, or paramedic), but may also be carried out by a police officer, depending on the context in which the situation has occurred (in or out of hospital).

Our objective in this essay is to discuss the implications of the political project of the far-right in Brazil, in the figure of Jair Bolsonaro, with regard to the setbacks caused in the policy and actions for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS in Brazil. The objects of our analysis are the dismantling of the AIDS policy; religious-based conservatism; the withdrawal of rights from people living with HIV and the production of fake news, in the context of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It was possible to observe implications in the policy and in the actions of prevention and treatment, such as the absence of proposals that sought to address structural problems that affect vulnerable groups, including poverty, stigma and violations of fundamental rights.
