The chemistry of conjugated nitrodienes is becoming increasingly popular. These molecules are successfully applied in cycloaddition to synthesize six-membered rings in Diels-Alder reactions. Nitrodienes can be also applied to obtain bis-compounds in [3+2] cycloaddition. Moreover, the presence of a nitro group in the structure provides a possibility of further modification of the products. The simplest symmetrical representative of conjugated nitrodienes is (1,3)-1,4-dinitro-1,3-butadiene. Although the first mentions of the compound date back to the early 1950s, the compound has not yet been examined thoroughly enough. Therefore, in this article, a comprehensive study of (1,3)-1,4-dinitro-1,3-butadiene has been described. For this purpose, an experimental study including the synthesis process as well as an evaluation of the spectral characteristics has been conducted. So as to better understand the properties of this compound, a computational study of reactivity indices based on MEDT and also an assessment of pharmacokinetics and biological activity according to ADME and PASS methodologies have been made. On this basis, some future application trends of (1,3)-1,4-dinitro-1,3-butadiene have been proposed.

Objectives: Our study aimed to compare signal characteristics of subdural electrodes (SDE) and depth stereo EEG placed within a 5-mm vicinity in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. We report how electrode design and placement collectively affect signal content from a shared source between these electrode types.
Methods: In subjects undergoing invasive intracranial EEG evaluation at a surgical epilepsy center from 2012 to 2018, stereo EEG and SDE electrode contacts placed within a 5-mm vicinity were identified.

Introduction: Accurate prognostication in comatose survivors of cardiac arrest is a challenging and high-stakes endeavor. We sought to determine whether internal EEG subparameters extracted by the Bispectral Index (BIS) monitor, a device commonly used to estimate depth-of-anesthesia intraoperatively, could be repurposed to predict recovery of consciousness after cardiac arrest.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we trained a 3-layer neural network to predict recovery of consciousness to the point of command following versus not based on 48 hours of continuous EEG recordings in 315 comatose patients admitted to a single US academic medical center after cardiac arrest (Derivation cohort: N=181; Validation cohort: N=134).

Background: Spectral power of slow rhythms in resting-state EEG increases along Alzheimer's disease (AD) continuum. Besides, recent studies have revealed 1) the importance of analyzing the aperiodic component of an EEG power spectrum and 2) the intrusions of sleep-like slow waves identifiable in wake EEG of animals and young adults. Importantly, the occurrence of these wake slow waves is known i) to increase after sleep deprivation, ii) to be associated with markers of sleepiness, and iii) to predict behavioral errors at different tasks.

Background: Early-stage dementia, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), is challenging to diagnose since it is a transient condition distinct from complete cognitive collapse. Recent clinical research studies have identified that balance impairments can be a significant indicator for predicting dementia in older adults. Accordingly, we aimed to identify key balance biomarkers using wearable inertial sensors for early detection of dementia/MCI.

With the proposal of the "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" goals, the utilization of renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, and tidal energy has garnered increasing attention. Consequently, the development of corresponding energy conversion technologies has become a focal point. In this context, the demand for electrochemical in situ characterization techniques in the field of energy conversion is gradually increasing.
