Rectal squamous cell carcinoma (rSCC) is a rare cancer (0.5% of all rectal cancers). It typically presents at an advanced stage and has a poor prognosis. Recently, chemoradiotherapy with organ preservation has become an option for complete response (CR). Surveillance is essential to prompt recognition of recurrence due to its high risk. We present a case of an elderly woman with rSCC stage cT4N1aM0 who underwent a combination of chemotherapy (mitomycin and fluoropyrimidine) and radiotherapy with CR and organ preservation. The patient has been in follow-up for 2 years with digital rectal examination, tumour markers, pelvic MRI, thoracic and upper abdominal CT, proctoscopy and positron emission tomography, with no disease recurrence. This highlights the success of chemoradiotherapy for rSCC treatment, allowing organ preservation.

Objective: To explore the safety and efficacy of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) combined with a PD-1 antibody in improving complete clinical response (cCR) and organ preservation in patients with ultra-low rectal cancer.
Methods: This was a prospective phase II, single-arm, open-label trial. Patients with confirmed pMMR status T1-3aN0-1M0 retcal adenocarcinoma were included.
Xenotransplantation (XTx) is an increasingly realistic solution to the organ shortage. Clinical XTx may require off-site procurement in a designated pathogen free (DPF) facility necessitating a period of cold ischemic time during transportation. This study evaluates the impact of different kidney preservation strategies on early graft function in pig-to-baboon XTx in a series of eight cases of pig-to-baboon xenotransplantation performed after five hours of cold ischemic time and compares these results to six cases of pig-to-baboon xenotransplantation performed with minimal ischemic time.
