Objectives: To investigate homocysteine (Hcy) levels in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension and a healthy Nigerian population, and to assess their association with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.
Setting: The study was conducted using data from the Ibadan CRECKID (Cardiovascular and Renal Event in People with Chronic Kidney Disease) study in Nigeria.
Participants: A total of 420 adults (aged 18+) categorised into three groups: individuals with stage 2 CKD or higher, hypertensive non-CKD individuals and normotensive individuals.

Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) poses significant clinical challenges due to its vascular invasion tendency and distant metastasis potential, leading to poorer patient outcomes compared to other thyroid carcinomas. Although ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2C (UBE2C) has been widely studied in various cancers, its specific role in FTC progression remains insufficiently explored. This study demonstrates UBE2C's dual functionality in FTC through clinical analysis and experimental validation.

A male in his 80s with a history of multiple colorectal cancer resections underwent an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for anemia investigation, which revealed a non-ampullary duodenal carcinoma. Due to insufficient surgical tolerance for pancreaticoduodenectomy, pharmacotherapy was considered. With informed consent, an MSI test was conducted, showing MSI-high, leading to the initiation of pembrolizumab treatment.

CD163 is the primary receptor for PRRSV, and its SRCR5 domain, encoded by exon 7, is crucial for supporting PRRSV infection. Previous studies have used CRISPR/Cas9 technology to remove exon 7 from the host genome, and the edited pigs were completely resistant to PRRSV infection. In this study, we used CRISPR/Cas9 technology mimicking an adenine base editor (ABE) to edit the splice acceptor site of exon 7, rendering it nonfunctional.
