Reactions of '-(3-methylpyridyl)oxalamide (), ,'-(3-methylpyridyl)adipoamide () and ,'-(3-methylpyridyl)sebacoamide () with tricarboxylic acids and Cu(II) salts afforded {[Cu()(1,3,5-HBTC)]·HO} (1,3,5-HBTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid), , {[Cu()(1,3,5-BTC)(HO)]·6.5HO}, , [Cu()(1,3,5-HBTB)] (1,3,5-HBTB = 1,3,5-tri(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene), , [Cu()(OH)(1,3,5-BTC)], , {[Cu()(1,3,5-BTB)]·2.5MeOH·2HO}, , and {[Cu()(1,3,5-BTB) ]·DMF·2HO}, , which have been structurally characterized by using single crystal X-ray crystallography. Complexes form a 2D layer with the {4.6}- topology, a 2D layer with the (4.6)(4.6.8)- topology, a three-fold interpenetrated 3D net with the (4·6)- topology and a 3D framework with the (4·6·8)(4·6)(4·6) topology, respectively, whereas and are 3D frameworks with the (6)(6·8)(6·8·10) topology. Complex shows a better iodine adsorption factor of 290.0 mg g at 60 °C for 360 min than the other ones, revealing that the flexibility of the spacer ligand governs the structural diversity and the adsorption capacity.
