Recent advancements in forensic genetics have facilitated the extraction of additional characteristics from unidentified samples. This study delves into the predictive potential of a five-gene (, , , , and ) methylation rate analysis for human age estimation using buccal swabs collected from 60 Italian volunteers. The methylation levels of specific CpG sites in the five genes were analyzed through bisulfite conversion, single-base extension, and capillary electrophoresis. A multivariate linear regression model was crafted on the training set, then the test set was employed to validate the predictive model. The multivariate predictive model revealed a mean absolute deviation of 3.49 years in the test set of our sample. While limitations include a modest sample size, the study provides valuable insights into the potential of buccal swab-based age prediction, aiding in criminal investigations where accurate age determination is crucial. Our results also highlight that it is necessary to investigate the effectiveness of predictive models specific to biological tissues and individual populations, since models already proven effective for other populations or different tissues did not show the same effectiveness in our study.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the risk factors that may cause postoperative otomycosis in patients undergoing Chronic Nonsuppurative Otitis Media (CNSOM) surgery.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 409 out of 523 patients met the inclusion criteria. 44 patients diagnosed with otomycosis CNSOM were analyzed.

Background: Some studies have revealed various sleep patterns in adolescents and adults using multidimensional objective sleep parameters. However, it remains unknown whether these patterns are consistent from adolescence to young adulthood and how they relate to long-term obesity.
Methods: Seven-day accelerometry was conducted in German Infant Study on the influence of Nutrition Intervention PLUS environmental and genetic influences on allergy development (GINIplus) and Influence of Lifestyle factors on the development of the Immune System and Allergies in East and West Germany (LISA) birth cohorts during the 15-year and 20-year follow-ups, respectively.

Selenium (Se) is an essential element for humans, playing a critical role in the functioning of the immune system. The global prevalence of dietary Se deficiency is a significant public health concern, largely attributed to the low levels of Se present in crops. The sufficient Se in plants and humans is determined by the presence of stable Se sources in the soil.

Cyclic voltammetry (CV) has been a powerful technique to provide impactful insights for electrochemical systems, including reaction mechanism, kinetics, diffusion coefficients, etc., in various fields of study, notably energy storage and energy conversion. However, the separation between the faradaic current component of CV and the nonfaradaic current contribution to extract useful information remains a major issue for researchers.
